When Michael Steele, a Republican, announced that he would seek the Senate seat long held by the popular liberal Democrat Paul Sarbanes, Marylanders should have welcomed his candidacy. He has shattered a considerable number of color barriers on the southern side of the Mason-Dixon line -- and he accomplished as much in a state where voters warm to Democrats and assail anyone attempting to whistle Dixie. But instead of encouraging a conservative-liberal, Democrat-Republican debate on the issues, Maryland Democrats have embarrassed themselves again.

Steele Leading Trade Mission To Israel

(AP) Annapolis, MD Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele will lead a trade mission to Israel later this week, the governor's office announced Thursday.
The state delegation will leave Saturday and return on November 11th.
State officials say mission continues an initiative started by Gov. Robert Ehrlich when he led a trade mission to Israel in November 2003.
Steele says Maryland and Israel have both developed technology-based economies and have a lot to share and learn from each other.
Steele, who is running for the U.S. Senate, is expected to announce several new programs during the trip.
He will meet with business and government officials and potential business prospects and speak at the annual Prime
Ministers Conference on Exports and International Cooperation.

Heard him on Laura Ingraham show this morning. Sounded like a well grounded nice guy. He mentioned having Oreo cookies tossed at him last week.

I don't think any crime should be called a "hate crime". It is the equivalent of a "thought crime". Motive is not necessary for conviction of a crime, and shouldn't be.

I wish I were there ... I would vote for him in a heartbeat. He is a rising star in the Republican party!
If Michael Steele were a liberal Democrat, he would be getting front page acalades from the lamestream media, celebrity stump visits, an appearance on Oprah, aned a made-for bio by the Lifetime Television Network. And his attackers would get press coverage rivaling that of Mark Fuhrman and Scott Peterson.
This is appalling.

This is just unbelievable. The silence from the NAACP and the Congressional Black Caucus is deafening.
Of course Democrats are terrified by just about everything.
If they were that organized there should have been ads playing clips of the Democrats saying "Bush lied", followed by clips of them saying the same things he did back before Bush was ever in office.
