GWB must have made some deal with Tony Blair to have welcomed this Eurotrash so heartily. That's the only way I can possibly explain it.

You're right. The adulteries of kings have usually been overlooked. I was thinking of the following scenario:

When King George V died in 1936, his eldest son became King Edward VIII. Edward wanted to marry an American divorcee, Wallis Simpson. The government, the Church of England, and many British people objected. Edward gave up the throne to marry her.

Now, it isn't likely that anyone would object.

Name those towns where all those thousands of people live, enjoying Charles' work, if you would.

Regarding Edward VIII's pro-Nazi and anti-democratic views, see, for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdication_Crisis_of_Edward_VIII#fn_2_back

"After the war is over and Hitler will crush the Americans . . . we'll take over. . . They (the British) don't want me as their king, but I'll soon be back as their leader."

Mrs. Simpson was an inappropriate figure but I believe that his shocking political attitudes, not shared by his brothers, were the key reason he was forced to abdicate.

seems that Charles is following the path of his Nazi predicessor sympathizer relative.

The one who had abdicated for the american.

According to a history chanel "what if" documentary, hitler had wanted him to be the pupet king for Germany when the Nazis invaded england.

Could be. We'll just have to wait and see. The more pressing problem is to what to do about these countries like France & England when they are overthrown by muslims. Both are nuclear powers and both have advanced technology. Scary thought.

Take your point.

Perhaps the fact that the succession is assured with William and Harry, the effect of a morganatic marriage would not be so great.

Sadly the person most likely to object would be the Queen herself who would have passed on when Charles became King.

Name those towns where all those thousands of people live, enjoying Charles' work, if you would.

Markham in Ontario; Seaside in Florida; Habersham and d’Ion in South Carolina, Belmont in Virginia, Poundbury in Dorset, and Kentlands, Sandy Spring, and Lakelands in Maryland (among scores of others). These projects tend to attractively reference local vernacular architecture and residents are apparently more than satisfied with the lifestyle they offer.

It's possible to dislike Charles's idiocy on religious and political issues and still acknowledge that there is something valid in his efforts to deal with housing problems. And it's also useful to recall that not everyone can afford, or would want, a house personally designed for them by “a student of Charles Alexander.”

I didn't know Charles was around when these cities were layed out. Obviously, you don't know about Christopher Alexander or Pattern Language.

Charles is a supporter of Andres Duany, not a heavy-equipment operator, but he was, in fact, "around" when the charettes for the planning of Kentlands took place and played a very active role in Poundsbury, which was built on the lands of his Duchy of Cornwall. For perhaps the third time: I make no claims that he is a carpenter, heavy-equipment operator, or architect, only that he has been a valuable advocate for livable traditional housing of this sort.

I have, of course, read about Pattern Language, like any other amateur of architecture. Your have not yet clarified your point.

And Charles' works of literature ?

Once again, you have neglected to bring forward any point. Did I say that he was a great author? I have only, and repeatedly, said that he has made some valid contributions by encouraging the design and construction of livable and handsome new towns. Please honor this forum by advancing some argument.

My point is, Charles has no standing to speak on any subject. He's a fraud, a phony, an expert on little but spending the public purse. The fact that he erupted with a few pointers on architecture should be considered little more than passing gas.

It's unclear that one has to have formal training in order to make intelligent observations on a subject. In fact, being a member of the academy with professional credentials is no guarantee that the speaker has any wisdom or is offering valid opinions.

Whether Charles has "standing" to speak on the subject or not, he has advocated a manner of living that appears to bring convenience and contentment to many people, and his advocacy has brought this alternative into the public view more than it otherwise would be. That's a good thing. He does not pass himself off as an architect or planner, but merely encourages those who are. Whatever I may think of his silly religious and political views, I applaud him for trying to do something good with his life that will improve the world, when he is not obliged to do anything at all. Your view differs. Since I am evidently not going to persuade you and you are not going to persuade me, perhaps we should leave it at that.
