The idea that one is already in possession of the final revealed truth, leading to an inherently superior way of life, inhibits adaptation to a technically more advanced society.

That reminds me very much of what I say about fanatics in an essay I wrote not long ago. It can be found on my profile page. Scroll down if interested.

Burn down the host country that has opened up it's doors and it's citizens' checkbooks to you and then you turn around and want respect?? Hahahaha!

I wonder when Muslim riots will happen here in American cities?

Hopefully, they'll be wiped out with extreme prejudice.

"Our immigrant brothers in Paris and in France must be given the conditions to live with dignity as human beings," not in "disgraceful squats", Boubakeur said, referring to the low-income suburbs where the trouble has broken out.

Not like the “disgraceful squats” in Muslim countries.

After France's advice to us I think they owe it to the world to appease these people. Show us all how it's done. Things should go really well after that. /sarcasm

As long as the basic tenet of Islam is the destruction of infidels either through conversion or physical assault in order to establish a worldwide caliphate, anyone who calls Islam a religion instead of a violent, mysogynistic, thieving and murderous cult is an idiot.

Well said and welcome to FR.

You cannot force respect. You can force subservience.

But it's just a matter of time before al Qaeda or some other Islamofascist terror group organizes attacks on something the French care about. The angry 'teenagers' causing trouble are ripe for take-over, and it's serious. France has a generation of young Muslim males without decent jobs and with a deep sense of entitlement and wounded self esteem. Sound familiar? How about poverty stricken Palestinians? At any rate, Muslims are having more children, so at some point demographics will give them enough votes to transform the country into an Islamic theocracy and France will be lost.

All political power stems from the capacity for violence and the willingness to use it to further ones goals

What has that to do with respect? I might force you to kneel at gunpoint, but I cannot force you to respect me for doing so. Your understanding of the word is on the level of a gangbanger who will pull a gun on someone who "disses" him.

Further, this is just a rehash of the old commie statement that power proceeds from the mouth of a gun. It is false. Political power can also stem from the ability to convince enough people to agree with you. Gandhi and King had this kind of political power. Popular democracies are based on this kind of power: that which is given voluntarily.

"The community deserves respect because it is respectful, young people need to find the way back to calm, our mosques need to be respected," Boubakeur said.

Let me get this straight, people are torching their own communities but want the rest of the world to give them respect?? Do I have that right?

I would like to know what these "respectful, young people" do to show their disrespect. I wonder what all the rioters would do if the police helped them just torch entire sections and let them burn? You want to burn down your living quarters, here, let us help you! Those poor youths, not feeling like they are getting their fair share of entitlements. Everyone knows that France OWES them a place to live...

Just puke!

The 80-20 rule is fine, except for one thing:

Back in the day of Irish/Armenian/Polish/Italian/Whatever immigration, those "bad" 20% may have been stealing, profiteering, whatever.

Now, that "bad" 20% has shown a willingness to engage in assymetrical warfare, hijacking planes and flying them into buildings. This is pretty new in history.

I am an American, I work with some muslims, and the few I know are...Americans. They want to make enough money to own a house, send their kids to college and pay their bills. They have my sympathy.

However, Muslims in my country, and the world in general, need to make more noise of condemnation. There is very little. And the little there is, has qualifiers attached.

You are absolutely correct in your thinking on this. There is no comparison.

Yeah, I just wonder what their living conditions were in the Arab hellhole they used to live in? There is always going back to live where you came from. I wish we could make Bush understand what he's doing to America by kissing their butts. You can't appease them. IF we're going to have trouble with them, let it be in the country that they came from.

>> You cannot force respect. You can force subservience.

I beg to differ.

You give deference (respect) to a man with a bat who will smash you if you take his parking space. You are not his subservient (slave). You yield to his threat of violence unless you are willing to fight. If you fight you are not subservient until you loose.

This thread is starting to suck for me.

I yield.
