NEWARK, N.J. - Hours after attending the funeral of Rosa Parks, former President Clinton invoked the civil rights heroine's memory in urging a large voter turnout for Democrat Jon Corzine in Tuesday's gubernatorial election.
Speaking to a crowd of several thousand screaming, stomping and cheering supporters at Essex County Community College Wednesday night, Clinton said it would be a mistake for voters to sit out next week's election.
"That woman we buried today after 92 years of service to this country, she had to try three times before they would even let her vote," Clinton said. "You be there on November 8th."
Clinton's appearance came as a new Quinnipiac University poll showed Corzine with a clear lead over Republican opponent Doug Forrester less than a week before the election, 50 percent to 38 percent. The poll had a sampling error margin of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
Only New Jersey and Virginia are choosing governors this year.
The former president contrasted Parks' courage and determination with the apathy of many modern voters.
"She knew that on Election Day if you show up and vote, you're just as good as the next person," Clinton said.
Clinton also stumped with Corzine in Union on Sept. 29.
The Democrat was hoping to get a boost from Clinton even as published reports showed him with a less-than-enthusiastic review from one person who knows him well: his ex-wife.
Two newspapers reported this week that Joanne Corzine, whose marriage ended in divorce in 2003, said her former husband was wrong to make political deals with influential but controversial New Jersey Democratic leaders.
Joanne Corzine did not return telephone messages left by The Associated Press.

Please, do these people really need to be told this? How condescending!
How did Rosa feel about you proclaiming Confederate Flag Day in Arkansas?
The first black president stumping for a Gentile who has attempted to pass himself off as Jewish. Ethnic crossdressing indeed.
Ricky Ray Rector. Remember him, Bubba?
Clintoon abuses live women AND dead women. Wow. An equal opportunity jerk.
He's in sad shape if that's the case.
The man who doesn't know what "shame" means.
Clinton is the kiss of death, Corzine must have some very bad poll data.
There's a difference?
:)
What service? Was she in the military most of her life? Was she an elected or appointed public official? Gee, I thought she was just a bus rider! Talk about poetic license!!
I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sick of listening to Clinton endorsement speeches for Corzine commericials!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EEEWWWW, the sleaze just ooooooozes out of that picture, doesn't it?
Keep your fingers crossed for cold, dismal, and rainy weather on Election Day in hopes of low voter turnout! That might be enough to get our guy into office. The latest polls are surprising in consideration of a bunch of newspapers (surprisingly) supporting Doug Forrester...

This is a lower case version of the Wellstone Memorial- using the dead for political purposes. Leave it to this POS to brag about himself while supposedly eulogizing Rosa Parks. And, by the way, how did RP devote herself to 92 years of public service?
