Paris Riots spread throughout north-east (7th Night of Violence and Burning)

Paris riots spread throughout north-east Posted at 8:20pm on 3 Nov 2005

Violence broke out in impoverished Paris suburbs for the seventh straight night, with rioters clashing with police and leaving a trail of torched cars and vandalised buildings.

Observers are pointing to France's failure to address deep problems of poverty and immigration, including tensions with its Muslim minority.

In Aulnay-sous-Bois in the worst-affected area of Seine-Saint-Denis, a police station was briefly besieged by gangs of youths while a gymnasium and a garage were set ablaze and a commercial centre vandalised.

A total of 40 vehicles, including two buses, were torched before midnight in nine towns in the Seine-Saint-Denis area, a high-unemployment largely-immigrant region. Police made 15 arrests.

Two primary schools were also damaged in the area northeast of the French capital.

The riots started last Thursday following the accidental electrocution of two youths, aged 15 and 17, who had scaled an electrical relay station's walls to escape a police identity check in Clichy-sous-Bois.

The firing of a police tear gas grenade against a mosque in Clichy-sous-Bois during clashes on Sunday also sparked rage in the suburb's large Muslim community.

Bingo. Complicating the present problem is the fact that France didn't convey full citizenship upon Muslim immigrants, so they feel stigmatized. You have to be born there to be truly French. They say they're called names, etc., are the last hired, first fired, and the French lumped them all into ghettoes. They made a bad problem worse. A fool should have seen this coming, and yes, how soon before Syrian or Iranian Muslim terrorists move in to begin the final takeover?

I'm not referring to specific acts. It is certainly clear that we can deal with specific criminals and specific crimes. I'm referring to the comments people have made regarding a kind of cracking down on Islam -- immigration issues, mosques which appear dangerous, etc. There's a lot of loose chat about dealing with "the Muslim problem." How do you do that without risking the religious freedom of the rest of us? How can we avoid situations like those in Thailand, Denmark and France?

At least Mexicans are for the most part peaceful

Guess you never watched one of the counter protests out in California complete with F*** the Alamo signs, "X"'s being drawn through American flags and the attacks on the elderly.

Quite agree. Doesn't sound like much of an accident, either. Stupidity maybe...

Chirac will either fall over these riots, or will have to unleash Sarkozy even more, which will make Sarkozy even more obvious as Chirac's successor. France will alas probably never throw Chirac in prison, because he will retain his immunity by remaining in office until he dies. But France is coming around. I should say, part of France is coming around. The leftist sphincters will remain sphincters.

It's time for the people of France to invoke a liberal dose of "second amendment". Oh wait, they don't have that....

I guess anybody that owns property in the riot areas is SOL.

Sounds like the french don't really want them. I'm guessing a bunch of do good liberals pushed through allowing them into the country. This is what they get for allowing libs\socialists\commies to run the show. Good thing we don't do the same thing here........

Ironic that skin color would be such an issue with so enlightened a nation as France. But, at the heart of liberalism is a belief that people will never be more than the color of their skin, and that they should be grouped accordingly.

While this is done out of a warped sense of guilt and sensitivity, it creates its own self fulfilling prophecy, which we are now seeing unfold in all its' molotov cocktail wielding glory. When you allow flimsy group stereotypes to excuse poor individual conduct, anything becomes permissible.

Is radical Islam a religion or is it more akin to gang activity? Really, watching what goes on in other countries is a good start in terms of preventing these situations in the US. I see riotous activity as something that needs to be beaten down hard, either by the police or by responsive citizens protecting their own property.

I went over to the BBC website and read fascinating comments about the Paris/suburb riots. Most of Europe (Leftist fools), is evidently at a loss as what to do, and of course have to be looking over the shoulder at their growing Muslim population. They seem to think more appeasement and 'understanding' will solve the problem.

Others are offended at Americans' remarks that as France sowed, so she reaps. America, so we're told, haven't handled immigration problems well so we should sit down and shut up! Some Americans have expressed sadness at the violence and death of the two teenagers in the power station, but there's a lot of denial going on about what this portends in the long run. Or even the short run. The disaffected 'youth'...Muslims...have announced Friday, tomorrow, as a day of widespread riots all over France. So we shall see what happens.
