Paris riots spread throughout north-east Posted at 8:20pm on 3 Nov 2005
Violence broke out in impoverished Paris suburbs for the seventh straight night, with rioters clashing with police and leaving a trail of torched cars and vandalised buildings.
Observers are pointing to France's failure to address deep problems of poverty and immigration, including tensions with its Muslim minority.
In Aulnay-sous-Bois in the worst-affected area of Seine-Saint-Denis, a police station was briefly besieged by gangs of youths while a gymnasium and a garage were set ablaze and a commercial centre vandalised.
A total of 40 vehicles, including two buses, were torched before midnight in nine towns in the Seine-Saint-Denis area, a high-unemployment largely-immigrant region. Police made 15 arrests.
Two primary schools were also damaged in the area northeast of the French capital.
The riots started last Thursday following the accidental electrocution of two youths, aged 15 and 17, who had scaled an electrical relay station's walls to escape a police identity check in Clichy-sous-Bois.
The firing of a police tear gas grenade against a mosque in Clichy-sous-Bois during clashes on Sunday also sparked rage in the suburb's large Muslim community.
Simple.
Rioting, burning, looting are not protected activities under the Constitution.
If the individuals involved in those activities are dealt with, soon the rest get the message. Like with any common street criminal, if you do not meet force with force, you will lose. It is not a difficult concept.
The holdovers from the Reno DOJ-and the incompetent face-savers in the FBI-just didn't do anything with him.
Torture*cough*interrogation.
Reuters is worse than AP...no surprise.
What?
Our mistake was thinking that the Sunnis would understand anything other response.
So, despite our motives and noble intent to find a peaceful solution, our actions were universally perceived as 'backing down'. This emboldened the resistance, and lead to a devastating and bloody siege that left the city in ruins. Our generally admirable desire to negotiate and seek understanding actually costs lives and prolongs problems when they aren't caused by a lack of understanding in the first place.
Now, these sububrs in France are becoming the Fallujah to Paris's Baghdad. A symbol of successful defiance. A base of strength from which to hide, recruit, and plan. The longer the French wait to act, the weaker and more vulnerable they will be perceived to be. Should they fail to do anything at all, then they are setting up a nightmare scenario where local extremist leaders will have built street credibility, connections and a myth of valorous resistance. Those are the building blocks of a real insurgency. Treating the heads of these extremist gangs as serious, legitimate leaders and opening dialog with them will be like spraying gas on the fire.
France will wish they had dealt with this while they had the chance, rather than waste time in empty negotiations. These rioters aren't motivated by a lack of sensitivity, economic opportunity and understanding. If they were, every city in North Africa would be in flames.
The rioters want power, and they intend to take as much from the French as they can get.
Somewhere within these mobs, France's 'Abu Musab al Zarqawi' is coming to power.
Chirac may have to act like a "cowboy" to get this under control. ;-)

mama always said, "violence begets violence"
mama says, "it's time to show the islimes
what their violence has wrought them."
This is not a revolution it is an insurgency. It can be a very good thing.Better now then 5 years from now.Europe is getting it smack in the center of its anti-americanism.They can turn away and deny or face the trojan horse that their polticians openned the door for.
They need to unload the rubber bullets & replace them with real ones.
F France
They reap what they sow
NOLA "evacuees"? LOL!
Well, it should scare the pants off of everyone. However, Islam and Christianity, Jews, other religions aren't the same. No other religion promotes hatred, violence, death, beheadings, lying, torture, ignorance, virtual hatred of women...whatever it takes to seize power and convert everyone left standing or simply kill them. There is a difference, and this is why separation of church and state matters.
But when a cult or religion promotes death and violence, if they preach the overthrow of the govt. by violent means from the pulpit, they've broken the law and should be dealt with accordingly. As for the Branch Davidians...David Koresh was a pedophile. He should have been arrested when he left the compound. The feds handled it terribly, but we can thank Hillary and Janet Reno that 85 children died and who knows how many adults. Hillary gave the order for the tanks to move in. She said she sick of watching it play out on TV.
Well, I guess they will just have to give the Muslims half of France for peace. After all, that is what France wants Isreal to do. Time to show that they can put their land where their mouth is.

(But there is a reason the French have adopted this foolish mechanism of defense. They are drunk on the deadliest drug on earth.)
And this dispite countless, constant, warnings--and the fact that anyone with an I.Q. above cinquante knew it wouldn't work in the first place--and that the drug was deadly and addictive.
The more the French struggle to escape the horrors of the past--notably the religious wars--the more inexorably they plunge directly into them.
As the Greeks observed at the dawn of European history: "You can't excape your fate." And the French are--yet again--proving the point.
The possibility that they will awaken in time to save themselves becomes more doubtful with each passing day. And it's highly questionable that a people who lack the will to survive deserve salvation or are even capable of it.
As France sinks further and further into the Third World, there will be a rush to save her ancient treasures--that is, the ones the Muslims don't blow up.
Those of us who love France can only shake our heads at their foolishness and our regret.
Too bad we can't shake the French into waking to reality--but obviously reality is beyond them, at this point--it will come crashing down upon them, but it will sadly be too late.
The alarm clock went off a long time ago, and they're still snoozing. They seem comatose. They are drunk.
In fact, they are mindlessly drunk on the most dangerous drug there is--one with the potential to intoxicate any of us--one whose consequencences are deadly--one far more poisonous that crack cocaine or heroin or opium or morphine or any and all of the drowsy syrips of the world and whose consequences are far more devastating--the drug is denial.
Denial is a river. It flows endlessly. It has no end. And the French drink from it, bathes in it, wallow in it, stay drunk on it. It has blinded them.
