Snip: BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Iraqi security forces caught the most wanted man in the country last year, but released him because they didn't know who he was, the Iraqi deputy minister of interior said Thursday.
Hussain Kamal confirmed that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi -- the al Qaeda in Iraq leader who has a $25 million bounty on his head -- was in custody at some point last year, but he wouldn't provide further details.
A U.S. official couldn't confirm the report, but said he wouldn't dismiss it.
Snip: Arash Ghorbani-Zarin, 19, was cut through with a knife 46 times. He had been seated in an automobile in Oxford in November 2004. The reason he was slain is because he was accused of impregnating Manna Begum, his girl friend. With that, her two brothers slaughtered the boy friend.
Her father, Chomir Ali, 44, set it all up. He convinced the brother to slay the girls boy friend. "Its just the way Muslims are," Cheherazad Jmil reported to the press. In other words, such doings are common place. It is expected from the Muslims in certain communities.
FBI grills Muslim high schooler about PLO doodle
Snip: SACRAMENTO, CA -- (OfficialWire) -- 12/15/05 -- The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area (LCCR) and the Sacramento Valley office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SV) today questioned why Elk Grove School District officials allegedly allowed FBI agents to interrogate a 16-year-old student without first notifying his parents.
The FBI interview concerned a doodle of the word "PLO" (referring to the Palestine Liberation Organization) that the student had scribbled on a binder two years earlier.
Administrators at Calvine High School apparently violated a school board policy that requires a student's parents be informed whenever a law enforcement officer requests an interview on school premises. The boy's family suspects that the teacher who had initially confronted the student about the drawing reported him to the FBI, chilling his right to freedom of speech at school.
Great new Jihad in Afghanistan
Snip: Mahan Abedin: What is the latest information on terrorism in Saudi Arabia?
Saad al-Faqih: The latest general trend is that the jihadis have abandoned their previous tactics of targeting Westerners and the security forces. The jihadis are now focusing all their attention on the royal family. Two factors have driven this change. Firstly, the jihadis had previously avoided targeting the royals for fear of offending Muslim sensibilities. But now they believe that the prevailing opinion in Saudi Arabiaand probably in the wider Muslim worldis that the royal family is infidel and deserves harsh treatment. Secondly, the jihadis have finally overcome their fear of a secular takeover in the event of the sudden downfall of the House of Saud. Somebody told me that in the late 1990s bin Laden used to say that if the House of Saud is removed, the country will fall into the hands of secular forces. But now al-Qaeda believes that the regime is behaving far worse than a would-be secular system, because it is gradually destroying Islam under the banner of a false Islam. Al-Qaeda has reached the conclusion that the sudden collapse of the regime will either invite foreign interference or chaos. Both scenarios are now favored by the jihadis, who have learned great lessons in the Iraq theater over the past 33 months. In fact the jihadis would welcome an American invasion, knowing full well that it will provide a massive recruitment opportunity for them and hence they will be the ultimate winners, as they think they are proving to be in Iraq.
I clipped off the part that said it had been a year since we had a tape from OBL.......copyrite met.........LOL
Afghan News Site Claims Bin Laden Tape
Thursday, December 15, 2005
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,178845,00.html
WASHINGTON -- U.S. officials are treating skeptically a report on an
Afghan news site about a new video showing Usama bin Laden.
The story from Pajhwok Afghan News, dated Tuesday, describes a new
30-minute tape with a message from Taliban commander Mullah Dodallah and
the Al Qaeda leader, according to the IntelCenter, a U.S. government
contractor that does work for intelligence agencies.
A U.S. counterterrorism official, who spoke only on condition of
anonymity in compliance with office policy, said the government could not
confirm the tape's existence but said officials are aware of the media
report. U.S. authorities are viewing it skeptically, the official said.

anyhoo interesting watching, produced for sure (sorry I'm an 80's chick).
No, I didn't dig into the Canada mines yesterday, when I did a year or so ago, I found many things there, that really
were not mining.
I am proud of you. That was good digging, 5133 I did not know, had read the info in 5134 here in a thread.
This is so dirty, I don't know how it will end.
The left has been swearing all day that there is no al-Qaeda
in Iraq. On the radio talk shows.
It is all I can do to keep my hand off the phone, don't know which is the worse stress, not calling or calling and talking to a fool.
I solved, went and took a nap.
Good to see you are here and working again.
Both Velveeta and I googled good ones today. You will find them in the posts.
I wonder where CNN was on this story in January, 2005?

Snip: A recent study showed that fewer than 20% of hospitals surveyed had plans for biological or chemical weapons incidents.
Hoping FReepers are prepared for all eventualities. The above link verifies what Appalachian_Dweller has said all along and what Hurricane Katrina response has taught us - we are essentially on our own!
Thanks neosgirl for those additional links.

Man bit off ear in cashcard queue row [Defense: Not
me, I was fasting for Ramadan]
Sheffield Today.net ^ | 14 December 2005 | Vincent van Gogh
Posted on 12/15/2005 3:33:22 PM PST by aculeus
A MUSLIM man who bit off part of a security guard's ear told police he
couldn't have deliberately carried out the attack - because he was
fasting for Ramadan.
Mohammed Sarfraz, of Cliffe Field Road, Meersbrook, said he was
fasting for Ramadan at the time of the incident, and it was forbidden
for him to eat or drink during daylight hours.
When interviewed after his arrest, he said: "I don't know why I've
done this. I'm a Muslim, I was fasting, the last thing I should ever
have done is eat something."
The 31-year-old is accused of attacking James Thorpe, aged 55, who
works at Sheffield Family Court, in revenge for jumping the queue at
the Lloyds TSB cash machine in High Street, city centre, at about
8.50am on October 12.
Sarfraz admits biting Mr Thorpe but claims he attacked him to get free
after being held in a bear hug. The defendant, who is married with two
young children and works as a chef at his family's restaurant in the
Wicker, claimed the trouble was initiated by Mr Thorpe. Sarfraz told
the jury sitting at Doncaster Crown Court: "I went forward to put my
bank card into one of the machines and this gentleman came and tried
to snatch my card out of my hand. I thought I was going to be robbed.
"My arm smashed into the cash machine. The card dropped on the
floor, and I picked it up, then the man started to kick me."
Sarfraz said there was a pause in the incident, but he didn't run away
because he was "scared" he would be chased by a crowd which had
gathered.
He continued: "The man then got me in a bear hug. There was nothing
I could do to get away.
"I saw his ear and I bit it. At the time I didn't think - I just thought it
would be enough to make him let go of me."

CAROLYN THOMPSON 45 minutes ago
(AP) - A group of Muslim-Americans asked a federal judge Thursday to allow them to travel to a religious conference in Toronto later this month without being fingerprinted, photographed and held for hours at the border, like they were on the way home from last year's gathering.
In a case that weighs the government's anti-terrorism efforts against the rights of its citizens, the New York Civil Liberties Union argued on the group's behalf for a court order prohibiting border agents from stopping and searching Muslim-Americans based solely on their attendance at the annual Reviving the Islamic Spirit conference in Toronto on Dec. 23-29.
Homeland
Security officials acknowledged subjecting those who attended last year's conference to lengthy security checks upon their return to the United States, but said they had reason to believe that people associated with terrorism planned to attend the conference or others like it.
NYCLU lawyer Christopher Dunn accused the government of trampling the plaintiffs' right to practise religion in the name of homeland security.
"We fully respect the government's concerns about terrorism. That does not mean, however, that the constitution disappears at the border," Dunn said.
A lawyer for the government said that while the stops may have taken too long, border agents did what was necessary to protect the country in light of credible intelligence.
"The concern was not that they went to a religious conference. The concern was that individuals, money, documents or weapons were going to get smuggled across the border," said Anthony Coppolino, who argued against the group's request.
The five plaintiffs, all New York residents, are among at least three dozen Muslim-American men and women who were corralled for as long as 6 1/2 hours at two western New York border crossings while trying to re-enter the United States by car. They said they were made to surrender credit cards, cellphones and other belongings and were frisked, questioned, fingerprinted and photographed without explanation.

CIA Director Porter Goss: Iran Has Nukes
Goss warns Ankara to be ready for a possible U.S. aerial operation against Iran and Syria
15 December 2005: As people in the U.S. readied themselves for Christmas, few were aware that CIA Director Porter Goss was in Ankara, Turkey on Monday, engaged in a meeting that lasted over four hours with Turkish Intelligence officials. Goss, accompanied by a large delegation, brought secret data about Iran as he met with officials of the Milli Istihbarat Teskilati, or MIT. Goss allegedly asked for Turkish support for the Bush administration's policies on Iran's nuclear activities, telling Turkish officials that Iran has nuclear weapons, a situation that created a huge threat to Turkey and other countries in the region.
Goss said that Iran sees Turkey as an enemy and will "export its regime," warning Ankara to be ready for a possible U.S. aerial operation against Iran and Syria.
On Tuesday Goss was driven in his armored BMW to a meeting with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Additional dialogue reportedly focused on the intelligence data, with Goss warning Ankara to be ready for a possible U.S. aerial operation against Iran and Syria.
RELATED: IRAN ALREADY NUCLEAR ARMED - From MARCH
Contingency Planning for the Iranian Nuclear Threat
by Sean Osborne, Associate Director & Military Affairs Analyst
15 December 2005: Contingency Plans for a unilateral Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear capabilities are already well through planning stages due to the very real possibility that the time-line assessment of March 2006 being the point of no return for the Islamic Republic of Iran acquisition of nuclear weapons capability might be grossly in error.
Contrary to the assessment that the public hears via open-source media, the classified data on Iranian capabilities is probably altogether more disturbing. That actual vignettes for a strike against Iranian facilities are being run as a vital part advanced operational contingency planning has been reported on and otherwise whispered about for months now. This means real aircraft practicing for real strikes. This, more or less, means war - a bigger war than now exists in the Middle East/South West Asia.
The Israeli government and defense forces apparently believe that the Iranian Ayatollah's nuclear ambition can be stopped by military means, or that they have no option but to proceed with plans for a strike in the face of the existential threat a nuclear-armed Iran poses. No one in their right mind believes the Iranian's will stop their drive for nuclear weapons capability through diplomacy, and certainly not with Russian and Red Chinese assistance to Iran in every conceivably related technology - including delivery systems being full steam ahead.
The "Axis of Evil" enunciated by President Bush is ever-the-more evident in the efforts of these nations. In fact there is a better nomenclature for them -- they should be known as the Trans-Asian Axis. Their agenda and goals are diametrically opposed to the United States, Israel and the West as a whole.
What might happen?
My assessment is that Israel simply cannot deal with Iran in any unilateral military action. This is a fact made public by the Israeli newspaper Ma'ariv in a red-banner headline within the past few weeks.
This is also something I have made clear in my previous assessments in the recent past. Israel will, of absolute necessity, require US Air Force and Naval Aviation participation in any airborne strike against Iranian facilities. Israel will in the remaining interim hope for if not actively press for joint US/EU participation, particularly from the UK. In my original assessment I pointed out that Israeli F-15I strike aircraft would form the bulk striking power of any Israeli piloted airborne force - these aircraft as designed for such a mission profile as will be required. US aircraft would be similar and also provide the electronic cover for any joint airborne strike force.
It is widely not reported upon that Israel also probably possesses an missile-borne strike force capable of pin-point accuracy. Evidence of this exists in the fact that Israeli Ofek-5 spy satellites are capable of ephemeris-driven space maneuvers as required for nuclear re-entry vehicles. Defensively, Israeli Arrow BMD and US PAC-3 Patriots would provide anti-ballistic counter fire against anything Iran put into the air.
The truly unknown factors are what will come out of Hezbollah-controlled areas of Southern Lebanon and Syria in retaliation for any strike on Iran. We may find out where Saddam's WMD went after all. We may also discover this as a result of any potential enemy pre-emptive action in the near-term.
