The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

CHICAGO -- A commuter train struck several vehicles during the
holiday rush hour Wednesday in this Chicago suburb, a Metra
spokesman said.

At least one of the vehicles burst into flames as a result of the
accident, Metra spokesman Patrick Waldron said. He did not
immediately have information about injuries.

The train, which left Chicago's Union Station at 4:25 p.m., was
probably carrying several hundred passengers when the accident
occurred, Waldron said.

Pardonnet said she did not know if there were any injuries. The
collision was described as a high-speed collision.

Alan Pollack, a passenger on the train, said the train was moving 50 to
60 miles and hour at the time of the accident. The passengers aboard
the train appeared not to have suffered any major injuries, Sky5's
Mike Lorber reported. Several ambulances were on the scene of the
crash.

The collision occurred at the Elmwood Park Grand Avenue train
station. The train is a Milwaukee West Line District train that runs
from downtown to Antioch. Lorber said the line would be shut down for
a while.

Norman Seiff, who was on the scene, said police were diverting traffic
around the scene, and described the side streets as "one big traffic
jam." Seiff said he counted 15 cars that were involved in the accident.

"We didn't hear a thing," Seiff said. "We just started looking out the
window and we saw the police cars and the fire engines race to the
area. We opened the window and we could smell the smoke and we
saw papers flying."

I'm hiding out in the computer room with a glass of wine. Already have a house full of company. They will be here until Sunday. Spent all day cooking and cleaning. The planners of the Normandy invasion could have used a housewife. If she could plan the care and feeding of 20 people for four days, she could do anything. I WILL SURVIVE!!

"Metra Train Hits Multiple Vehicle"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "(CBS) ELMWOOD PARK A Metra train has hit multiple vehicles on Grand Avenue west of Harlem Avenue in Elmwood Park, injuring at least 13 people.

A Metra spokesman says the Metra North Central Service train heading to Antioch from downtown Chicago has struck numerous vehicles near the commuter rail's Elmwood Park station.

Five vehicles were hit by the train itself, and as many as a dozen were hit in a chain reaction.

Authorities say at least 13 people were injured, but no fatalities have been reported. Several people had to be extricated from vehicles. Four of the injured were transported to Gottlieb Memorial in Melrose Park, and hospital officials say they are expecting more injured to arrive. Three victims went to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood."

MEXICO CITY (AP) — A tanker truck hauling toxic ammonium chloride slammed into a passenger bus in northwest Mexico, killing 38 people as both vehicles plunged down an embankment, police said Wednesday.

Most of the victims in Tuesday night's crash had chemical burns and authorities were trying to determine if the ammonium chloride contributed to their deaths, Federal Police in Mexico City said in an accident report.

The driver of the tanker, who was among the dead, apparently lost control on a curve near the city of Los Mochis in Sinaloa state, crashing into the rear of the bus.





The report said both vehicles then plunged down slopes on the side of the highway. The bus flipped onto its roof and the tanker spilled it load of 25 tons of ammonium chloride.

Federal police and gas experts from state-run Mexican oil company Pemex have sealed off the area.

Television images showed a twisted truck laying on its side near the highway.

There was no immediate information on survivors of the crash or who owned the 1993-model tanker truck and where it was headed.

A separate accident early Wednesday on a highway between Mexico City and the central city of Queretaro killed six people and injured at least 36 others, said Luis Rivera, director of emergency response for Mexico state, which borders the capital. The crash involved a passenger bus and a cargo truck, Rivera said.

Some of the injured were in serious condition and had been transferred to a hospital, he said.
