Pennsylvania is crippled by an absolute refusal of this administration to curb spending or lower taxes on job creators. A study conducted a few years ago found that business taxes per employee were 58% higher than the national average. Pennsylvania ranks 5th highest in the category of business taxes collected per employee. That has not changed under Governor Rendell.
Take for example the Rendell tax increase of 2003. While the administration fought for the increase of the Personal Income Tax (PIT) as a way to pay for their out of control spending, they never once considered the impact it would have on our job creators. Business partnerships, S-corporations, limited liability corporations, and other similar small businesses pay their taxes through the PIT.
Governor Rendells initial tax increase plan, an increase in the PIT by 34%, would have cost small businesses $3.2 billion over 8 years.
Raising taxes on our job creators is not the way to turn around the economy. After all, it is estimated that small businesses create almost 70% of our new jobs.
A recent study concluded that Pennsylvania missed creating over 33,000 new jobs in 2004 alone thanks to the Rendell tax increase. Instead of ranking in the bottom half of the country in job creation, we could have climbed into the top 20.
Our Corporate Net Income Tax is currently at 9.99%. This gives us the distinction of having the 3rd highest rate of the 44 states that have corporate income taxes.
When it comes to spending, this administration has never seen a dollar it hasnt wanted to spend. The past three Rendell budgets have increased spending by over 18%, and the cost of government per family has increased $2,700 for each family of four.

What did a B-movie actor in California back in the 60s know about running a state?
Apparently, a lot more than the professional hacks did!
Also, I think Swannie will help Santorum.
That statement was made up out of whole cloth by someone who knows diddly about PA politics.
The Party is not about to go with a two-time gubernatorial loser. And Scranton III's drug use and attachment to the Maharishi Mahesh Yoga are sure to come up again in any campaign.
The Mahareshi Scranton III in his Hippie Days:
I think you are correct. I suspect I may know "conservative goddess" or at least the group with whom she is affiliated. I will grant her that she and her crew played a large role in Peg Luksik's moral victory over Barbara Hafer. And I will say the same thing here that I have said many times - she is more concerned with being right than saving babies' lives.
If Swannie wins the PA governor's office, I think he's got a shot at winning the presidency in 2012.
He has the political skills to be president. I wouldn't jump ahead though. I've heard him speak. He's inspiring and solid but he doesn't have that Reaganite vision. I think I'd like a President Swann, but I'm not sure that I'm eager for one.
ROFLMAO. You don't have the first notion who I am.
Elsie Hillman is behind Scranton. http://westmorelandgop.blogspot.com/2005/11/breakfast-to-honor-bill-scranton.html
Does this give you any clues as to who the annointed candidate will be?????
OK, so somebody I've never heard of is endorsing somebody I only know by his family name. The big question is: So what?
Whatever you say, Kathy.
I think and hope the party learned from its mistake by not putting up Mark Schweiker against Rendell. It was Fisher's "turn" even though Schweiker had overwhelming support and national exposure after the mine incident.
Maybe you've heard of him. He used to play for the Steelers.""
He is attractive. He is fairly articulate. He is not the brightest bulb on the tree. He will be a patsy for whoever puts him into any polital office.
Remember, you heard it from me. A friend from years ago knew him quite well. He loved the guy, but couldn't hold a long conversation with him.
She's 80! Her "endorsement" won't carry much weight and she hasn't had an official GOP position in 10 years.
BTW, you have an interesting way of quoting previous posts. It reminds me of someone...
It's her plaything when she isn't doing some country club social swirl with the Teresa Heinz old, moldy money set.
It's time for the PA Republican party to say thanks to Elsie for her service and move on to the 21th century.
Whatever you say. LOL!
I'm not "Kathy" Please do not attribute anything I say to her, nor anything she says to me. We are NOT one in the same person. Try again.
Sounding more and more what I heard about that B-movie actor from California back in the 60s. They said those career pols in Sacramento would eat him alive, and he just didn't have the "depth" to deal with "real issues."
I don't know what 2nd hand information you got from your friend, but I know some PA state political hacks personally. I've worked with them, played golf with them and drank with them. In terms of "knowledge" of state goings on, they are as wide as the Delaware river, and as shallow as the oil sheen on that river only twice as slick and slimy. They are a thoroughly corrupt bunch, both Rs and Ds, and within my memory we have never once selected a chief executive who was not either from among them, or hand picked by that bunch of professional parasites.
It's way past time for an outsider who does not owe them a damn thing. Even if you're right, and Swann isn't up to the job of saving this state from more taxes, more corruption and more of our young people fleeing for other states, I don't see were we have much to lose by going with Swann. He can't possibly hurt us any more than the "professionals" have.
It is true enough that to win in Pa. you only have to cut sufficiently into the Pittsburg and Philly margins. My original point was more that, given the fanatical turnout and large margin going to Democrats in Philly in 2004, Swann or Scranton will have their work cut out for them in 2006 as will Santorum (especially considering that he continues to run left....he's got to motivate the base to come out and vote for him, not try to run like Specter.)
I'm not sure but I think so. I hope so. Rendell needs to be replaced. I think Swann could be a good governor and he seems interested and gearing up.
