The Italian businessman at the centre of a furious row between France and Italy over whose intelligence service was to blame for bogus documents suggesting Saddam Hussein was seeking to buy material for nuclear bombs has admitted that he was in the pay of France. The man, identified by an Italian news agency as Rocco Martino, was the subject of a Telegraph article earlier this month in which he was referred to by his intelligence codename, "Giacomo".
His admission to investigating magistrates in Rome on Friday apparently confirms suggestions that - by commissioning "Giacomo" to procure and circulate documents - France was responsible for some of the information later used by Britain and the United States to promote the case for war with Iraq.
Italian diplomats have claimed that, by disseminating bogus documents stating that Iraq was trying to buy low-grade "yellowcake" uranium from Niger, France was trying to "set up" Britain and America in the hope that when the mistake was revealed it would undermine the case for war, which it wanted to prevent.

But .. what they always leave out .. Tony Blair said that they had OTHER SOURCES which confirmed the attempted purchase of yellowcake by Iraq.
I heard it out of Tony's own mouth.
link?
Do we rely on foreign countries for this important information? Do we trust and not verify?
"Do we rely on foreign countries for this important information? Do we trust and not verify?"
Only when its' convenient to do so.....
British officials still say that their intelligence about Iraqi uranium purchases was supported by a second, independent source.
There was an article by Defense and Foreign Affairs Daily on September 8, 2004 written by Gregory R. Copley, Editor, GIS called: "Reports of French Involvement in Niger-Iraq Uranium Case Not Reliable" that took this into more detail and mentions Libya's involvement. I am trying to find the link.
What scummy little rats the French are. Time to sic Germany on them again. And this time... we don't get involved.
ping
Fact: Italian born , French employed SPY plants documents about possible sale of Yellowcake Uranium to SADDAM.
Intention: Embarrass US and intervene in US ability to intercede in IRAQ.
Fact: British SPYS have second source showing SADDAM really did inquire into buying Yellowcake Uranium from suppliers in Africa.
Fact: SADDAM had a huge stockpile (IIRC over 500 tons) of YELLOWCAKE URANIUM which WE removed at the beginning of the Iraqi conflict.
Fact: The MSM's are the enemy of the people of the UNITED STATES. Joe McCarthy was right.
Where did Libya get uranium ore for its nuclear weapons program?
Supposedly it came from Niger, off the books. Another item that drops down the memory hole.
I've also read stories over the past couple of years that indicated the mines in Niger where the "Yellowcake" is found is somehow connected with the French government. This connection is either directly via a government agency or via a French influenced company.
Keep in mind that France has had a very large influence on African nations (including Niger) for many years. France is also one of the largest consumers and producers of nuclear materials to support both it's very large nuclear power programs (59 plants supplying 75% of Frances electricity) and weapons.
France has it's fingerprints all over this issue.
What can you expect from a country where instead of men, they have nothing but girlie boys that wear bikini panties instead of mens under shorts.
Oooooh your kidding me. From Mars........really.
Curses! Foiled again!
Hey! Grab him. Yea he's the one.
