Where did Libya get uranium ore for its nuclear weapons program?

Supposedly it came from Niger, off the books. Another item that drops down the memory hole.

I've also read stories over the past couple of years that indicated the mines in Niger where the "Yellowcake" is found is somehow connected with the French government. This connection is either directly via a government agency or via a French influenced company.

Keep in mind that France has had a very large influence on African nations (including Niger) for many years. France is also one of the largest consumers and producers of nuclear materials to support both it's very large nuclear power programs (59 plants supplying 75% of Frances electricity) and weapons.

France has it's fingerprints all over this issue.
