MSNBC's Chris Matthews: "[I]'m Sitting Here Holding In My Hands, A Pretty Disgusting Document, This Is Put Out Not For Attribution. But It Comes From The Democrats, They're Circulating It. I Can Say That." (MSNBC's "MSNBC Live," 10/31/05)
- Matthews: "[T]hen Their Complaint Sheet Against Judge Alito's Nomination. The First Thing They Nail About This Italian American Is He Failed To Win A Mob Conviction In A Trial 20 Years Ago, Or Something Way Back In '88." (MSNBC's "MSNBC Live," 10/31/05)
- Matthews: "In Other Words, They Nail Him On Not Putting Some Italian Mobsters In Jail From The [Lucchese] Family. Why Would They Bring Up This Ethnically Charged Issue As The First Item They Raise Against Judge Alito?" (MSNBC's "MSNBC Live," 10/31/05)
- Matthews: "This Is Either A Very Bad Coincidence Or Very Bad Politics. Either Way Its Gonna Hurt Them. This Document: Not Abortion Rights, Not Civil Rights But That He Failed To Nail Some Mobsters In 1988. This Is The Top Of Their List Of What They've Got Against This Guy. Amazingly Bad Politics." (MSNBC's "MSNBC Live," 10/31/05)
Matthews: "[The Democrats Are] Trying Not To Put A Signature On It, But I Just Did." (MSNBC's "MSNBC Live," 10/31/05)

While we may privately take some kind of pride in our ancestry, we owe our allegiance to this country. Why take some special pride in an important appointment because... Hey, he and I have similar backgrounds! It smacks of a kind of separatism to me. If Maria Cuomo was the man up for the SC, that fact that he shared my ancestry would not ameliorate by disgust for him on iota. But, in cotrast to that, Judge Alito shares my values and ideology, and as such I take extra satisfaction in the fact that he is Italian. If that rubs you the wrong way, so be it.

Save your insult until he says something detestable, (which is often enough)! When he attacks our enemies; don't insult.

While you're at it throw in a class action suit against all the green goofies who run up our tax bill by billions using all the 501c3's to stop common sense domestic energy production, water storage, and a lot of other things too numerous to mention here.

Rats are dumb as dogs**t. THEY watch Matthews so they think the USA does. They assume its the center of the news universe. Too bad only 100,000 people watch. All Rats. So they're talking to themselves. And they spend precious news cycles and resources to keep this bozo happy. Fine. Let the smart money (Pubbies) get the msg out to 25X the number of people. On FOX. Ha!

Wait for more ways the Dems will destroy themselves. This is just the beginning. Yes. They're roaring downhill, no brakes. No idea what happened to themselves. No compass. No net.

No need to apologize, you didn't touch a nerve at all. What was there to comment on? You touched on his supposed inability to put away mafiosi, asked me why I supposed the dems were doing this. You rambled on about not all Italians being in the mafia, and that your relatives were not in the German mafia. It was a soliloquy, not a QandA.
The point you were trying to drive home was that I was a 'separatist.' You're free to believe that, that's of no consequence to me. I'm not that insecure.
I know my post rubbed you the wrong way. As I said, I'm happy to let that stand, and I'll repeat, that if ancestry were my main concern I could go for Mario Cuomo, but I never would.
Have a piece of pizza, drink a little wine or beer, I like beer with pizza, the little baby OVs are just enough, then have a little espresso, and ponder the import of America being named after Amerigo Vespucci, and offer up a toast to the great man.

Great post.Thank you, exdem.
I am also Italian American and very proud of Judge Alito.
As we all should be.
By the way, earlier today I was discussing the exodus of Italian-Americans from the Democrat party over the last 20 years or so with a co-worker.
It's really astounding to me, because when I was in my late teens, in the early to mid 70s, there was no such animal as an Italian Republican, at least in my neck of the woods. And that changed fast.
You can't even mention Jimmy Carter's name around my relatives now without someone exlaiming, that sonamabitch or as the Southerners are wont to say sumbitch.
Anyway, thanks for the solidarity, and right back at you.
To: AlbionGirl
My Father, whom I am very proud of has always been Republican, he is 1st generation Italian American.
