Matthews: "[The Democrats Are] Trying Not To Put A Signature On It, But I Just Did." (MSNBC's "MSNBC Live," 10/31/05)

Thanks for the ping. Amazing stuff, but then again Matthews' emphasis is that this was "bad politics." Not that it's wrong, but that it's an ineffective way of taking Alito down.

Bingo. Chrissy just thinks that this attack angle is a loser for the Dims at this time. He probably thinks it reeks of desperation (which it does) and would prefer it to be kept as the "Hail Mary" play if all else fails.

Other leftists appear to disagree. According to Hannity, the AP has a piece hyperventilating over the fact that Judge Alito would be the fifth Catholic on the Supreme Court (GASP!!) if the eeeevil Republicans succeed in steamrolling him through the Senate. I guess they figured the Catholic bashing worked so well during the John Roberts nomination that they just had to dust it off for this one.

Many Italians in the Northeast became Republicans because the Democratic party was controlled by the Irish who didn't want the Italians competing for jobs.

I'm Irish; my Irish grandmother (born in Long Island and a second-generation American), was a Republican who encouraged me to also become a Republican, but I believe most of her family members were Rats.

My children might have a better chance influencing their Italian family members, who are second-generation Americans, whose grandparents emigrated from Sicily to Chicago.

Matthews worked for Tip O'Neal (O'Neill?) when he was the Democratic Leader of the Senate...he often talks of how Dems and Republicans would fight like hell over political issues and then go out and have drinks together...I think he hates the politics of personal destruction...I believe that he hated Clinton because of his treatment of women...his smearing of their reputations and sicking scary guys on them to intimidate them and keep them quiet...maybe he hates bullies...I know I do.

I wasn't talking about the President, I was talking about the Dems. They can try to hit the Italians where they live, morning, noon and night. Won't make any difference; we're not that insecure. Amerigo Vespucci, Christopher Columbus, Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Fermi, Garibaldi, and on and on and on. Bring it on, I say.

The dems can continue on this anti-american path to their own detriment. That effects us too, however because the best interest of the electorate is best served with a loyal opposition. The dems are neither loyal nor are they a real opposition.

I think Jed Babbin had a good piece in today's American Spectator. Now is the time to take the dems out fishing. Those lost denizens who hover around the middle of the road should stand aside. They, as Jefferson once said about Adams, are neither men enough to help complete the task or women enough to know when to back away.

President Bush is not much of a true believer in anything but Iraq, IMO. That doesn't mean he's a bad man. He also has a very conciliatory nature. I like him for that, but you don't go about playing with the big dogs dressed up like a bone.

He needs to fully realize that his opponents revile him, and want to bury him, and that transforms them from opponents into enemies.

The dems have ALWAYS been willing to brawl, we can't shy away from it. If we get beaten up, what doesn't kill us will make us stronger. Politics is war without bloodshed, but it's essential nature is nasty nonetheless.

All that being said, God Bless President Bush, God Bless the USofA, and God Bless the next Supreme Court justice, my fellow Italian, Samuel Alito. Forza, Signore Alito, forza!

I am thinking about the scenes in the Godfather (I or II?) where that Nevada Senator gets hostile...and the "family" gets even.

Harry Reid?

:-)

He's a rabid Dem, who routinely hits the GOP below the belt. Why does he have a problem with it this time?

Because it was a stupid political tactic on the part of the Democrats. Matthews doesn't mind the Democrats sliming Republicans, but he gets upset when they do it badly.

RTOFL... Mathews is going crazy tonight...

First taht, then he was harsh on Ralph Nees, and now he is tearing Dean apart.

In his mind, I think this is his 'pennance' for the hysteria from the past few weeks.

Matthews was a Dem operative in a previous life. I think he worked for Carter and Mondale, if I'm not mistaken....Press Sec'y. for Tip O'Neil, I think. :)

I seriously don't know many who are RATS. Most are business owners who vote GOP because of distrust in gov't and financial issues.

My slight is meant for Matthews. If you say his father was a good guy then I believe you. Good guy or not he still raised an @$$hole

I loved that scene. By far, the Godfather 1 & 2 are the best movies of all time.

The spinners at the DNC forgot that PC is the highest loyalty. That is all. No principle involved. If the DNC had called him a Nazi who bakes small children for supper, he would have applauded and called them daring. But they sinned against Tolerance Almighty, so he sniffs.
