2.22 here, but why is diesal still at 3.20+??

It's harvest time in the agricultural sector, and that causes a spike in diesel demand. Also, we cannot import diesel like we can import gasoline, due to high worldwide demand, and we're still only up to about 60 - 70% of pre-hurricane refining output for gas and diesel. So, the market for diesel is still very tight.

Too much work for me - that would be a full-time job for many, many people. I figured it would be adequate to pinpoint those companies we would reward/punish for gasoline prices. The gasoline stations would then fall in line with their suppliers.

I've speculated that most diesel fuel is purchased on contracts, so the "price at the pump" doesn't accurately reflect the true prices that are being paid. Truckers who bought diesel contracts at $2 per gallon were making out like bandits when the price went up to $2.50, and retailers have to charge their short-term customers (those who buy at the pump) a very high price to make up for the losses they incur on the long-term contracts.

The fact that Company A makes a profit of 10% and Company B makes a profit of 6% has almost nothing to do with the retail prices they charge for gasoline. Major oil companies typically generate most of their revenues on exploration, not retail sales.

Also . . . What happens if Company A has lower prices at the pump than Company B?

I filled up in Huntington Beach yesterday for $2.51.
The cheapest gas in CA.
And the Mobil is $2.49 today.
Looks like we are in the middle of a gas war.
Prices are falling like a rock here.
They dropped at one ARCO station twice in one day!

But a long ways away from the prices we were paying just a year ago...

If it's 2.01 in Iowa and 1.99 in Missouri, why is it still 2.42 in Central Texas? Somebody is gouging us right here in the oil patch...or is it the state tax that makes the difference? I'm ticked off!!!

So you are saying that XOM just had record-breaking profits due to exploration and not retrail sales??? I do not think so - in fact, it was directly attibuted to the price paid for oil.

As consumers, we have only one way to affect gas prices - buy gas from B and not from A.

I found it by using www.gasbuddy.com. Cool site for finding low prices in your area.
