Gas prices move below $2.50 Regular unleaded price has fallen over 18 percent since Labor Day record high, AAA reports. October 31, 2005: 7:06 AM EST
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Regular unleaded gasoline prices fell nearly two cents Monday, dipping below the $2.50 mark, according to travel group AAA's daily survey.
The nationwide average price for regular unleaded fell to $2.492 a gallon from $2.509 Sunday, according to AAA. The price is down over 18 percent from the record high of $3.057 that it hit on Labor Day, following Hurricane Katrina.
Gasoline is down from $2.887 a month ago, but up from $2.031 a year ago, AAA says, a 23-percent year-over-year increase.

It's harvest time in the agricultural sector, and that causes a spike in diesel demand. Also, we cannot import diesel like we can import gasoline, due to high worldwide demand, and we're still only up to about 60 - 70% of pre-hurricane refining output for gas and diesel. So, the market for diesel is still very tight.
Too much work for me - that would be a full-time job for many, many people. I figured it would be adequate to pinpoint those companies we would reward/punish for gasoline prices. The gasoline stations would then fall in line with their suppliers.
It's 2.17 in East Fallowfield. Move a few miles further west...
I've speculated that most diesel fuel is purchased on contracts, so the "price at the pump" doesn't accurately reflect the true prices that are being paid. Truckers who bought diesel contracts at $2 per gallon were making out like bandits when the price went up to $2.50, and retailers have to charge their short-term customers (those who buy at the pump) a very high price to make up for the losses they incur on the long-term contracts.
Probably already asked you...where do you live?
Springfield for me.
Also . . . What happens if Company A has lower prices at the pump than Company B?
Now..this winter, the new liberal gripe can be..Natural Gas for home heating!!! LOL!.

If it's 2.01 in Iowa and 1.99 in Missouri, why is it still 2.42 in Central Texas? Somebody is gouging us right here in the oil patch...or is it the state tax that makes the difference? I'm ticked off!!!
Morning of 31OCT2005
$2.39 in Fairfax County, VA ...
So you are saying that XOM just had record-breaking profits due to exploration and not retrail sales??? I do not think so - in fact, it was directly attibuted to the price paid for oil.
As consumers, we have only one way to affect gas prices - buy gas from B and not from A.
