I wasn't really crazy about Miers, but denying her a vote was a disaster in the making for sometime in the future. Miers was not denied an up or down vote. She withdrew. POTUS accepted the withdrawal because she would have LOST the up or down vote.

It is Pres. Bush's real nominee confirmed by two Republican officials.

I have little choice. At 7:00 a.m. where I live, unless I want to hear pop, country, or rap music while I drive to work, I can listen to Imus or NPR.

Good, I hope for a miracle on Alito and it goes to a vote and passes, even if by only 51-50. The most votes he could get is 52. But that is enough and worth the fight.

He's Italian. OF COURSE he's Catholic! What's the big deal about that?

It is now formal: Conservative Protestant Southerners are VERBOTEN on SCOTUS. Sorry your identity politics so blurs your political views. Perhaps you should work for Al Sharpton for a little while as an apprentice to learn the identity politics game. Then you can sit around bean-counting the number of Conservative Protestant Southerners is all branches of governement, in sports, in business, etc.
Report back what you find.

Beautiful! Good job, President Bush! It's hard to believe the same president who nominated Harriet Miers has just nominated someone nicknamed Scalito! Hey, I'll take it! I wanna see Ann Coulter do a celebration dance on TV today!

Why is that not a conservative outcome?I wondered that too. I think lots of people have a very wrong picture of what conservatism is.

Has it been mentioned that Alito lives and works in Specters backyard, who will be hard-pressed to do anything but help his local guy.

I'm glad he didn't [President Bush didn't nominate Gonzales], and now I hope the pundit class gets behind this nominee and puts as much energy into attacking the Dems and their RINO supporters as they put into attacking Miers. I never thought President Bush would nominate Gonzales. I don't see him as spiteful. Stong-willed, sure, but not spiteful.
I suspect the conservative pundit class will be MORE energized in support of the Alito nomination than it was against the Miers nomination. Miers was a warm-up. ;-)

Then again, there are many in DC who really only use conservatives as an election tool. On the one hand, they will placate us publicly. And behind closed doors, they'll try to work out subtle ways to undermine true conservatives. I think many, if not most, politicians are actors, and simply pick the role they think they can play most convincingly on the public stage.
Once in office, the real objective is power, and the favors that can be extended to one's supporters through the use of governmental connections

Like to make a bet? The force of conservative movement is much stronger than your weak knead faith. Courage is respected by the American people..a leader who is afraid to fight for his beliefs is no leader at all.

By midmorning this should become a war. Expect the Democrats to be out in full force. The Republican Senator will immediately be under the gun. I expect a whole litany of issues on his rulings to be brought up and call extreme by the rats. The confirmation of this pick needs Tom Delay or someone in the Senate to rally the troops and quickly before they begin to fold.

I wasn't really crazy about Miers, but denying her a vote was a disaster in the making for sometime in the future. If Alito is confirmed, will you withdraw your idea that having her pulled was a disaster?
