Per Fox News...
Thank you for sharing. Forgive me, but I'm just really tired of all of the negativity that has ensued at FR the past few weeks. Be HAPPY! He did good!
Miers would have been a conservative, hence President Bush nominated her.
Hmm. Looks as if the left , and the media in particular, has just outed itself here.
I didn't know that we were supposed to legislate ethics from the bench.
Seems to me the bench is supposed to decide legal issues.
Let the abortion-crazed Dems make an issue out of Judge Alito believing a married father has a right to know when his baby is about to be killed. BRING IT ON, KENNEDY! BRING IT ON, HILLARY! Let's have this fight already. The American people will agree with Alito - and Rehnquist - that fathers should have that right.
PLEASE stop with the Miers thing. She is gone. It's over. This is a great pick!
My hope and prediction is as follows: I have noticed McCain moving further to the right, in recognition of the difficult of winning the GOP primaries as a RINO. If Bush played this smart, then McCain has already signed on with Alito. If that is the case, then McCain can might intend for this battle to be his after-fight make-out session with the base. In that case, the other moderates will follow McCain with an eye towards them wanting him to be the next President.
Anyway, that is my hopeful prediction.
iirc, he used to work in the White House....a verrrry long time ago....for Cheney I think but the memory is fading. He also is known to hang with former VP Gore's chief of staff....whose name I can't remember either. In fact, I never knew his name.
Your quotes from L.Graham bode well for the Rep side of the "Gang of 14". Now we will see if he acts accordingly.
Once again GWB shows that he has more class than most in his party.
Conservatives calling him every name in the book, and he doesn't respond with a "spite" nomination, like Gonzales, but with Alito.
However, those that are pleased with Alito must acknowledge that Bush has done his part...now it's up to them to influence their representatives in Congress to approve Alito.
Otherwise, Bush's original plan for a "stealth" nominee will have seemed like the right plan.
Bork's "borking" eventually gave us Kennedy...not such a win for the conservatives. If Alito isn't put through, the next pick might not be as conservative.
False conclusion, unsupported by facts in evidence.
Yeah NEW JERSEY!
He doesn't have to be acceptable to Dems like Reid. he just has to be acceptable to Dems in the Gang of 14. AND the RINO's in the Gang of 14. One would hope that Bush has already run Alito by the Gang of 14 RINO's and gotten approval. IF those RINO's are on board, then all else is academic. But that is a big IF.
I want to see how much heat the loony left will put on the Dem senators. If they don't filibuster it'll show how little influence they have even over their own senators.
I was being sarcastic. Anyway, this is a great pick.
AP via Yahoo:
"Bush to Nominate Alito to Supreme Court...confirmed by two senior Republican official[s]..."
"Imus is having a severe case of cognitive dissonance this morning--no Rove indictment, and now Scalito."
...........................................
If you are still listening to IMUS you are stuck on stupid.
"In 1997, Alito authored the majority opinion upholding a city's right to stage a holiday display that included a Nativity scene and a menorah because the city also included secular symbols and A BANNER EMPHASIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF DIVERSITY."
A wealthy white male lawyer who has never had a real job, with an Ivy League education, born in the Northeast. What a surprise! What an example of diversity! And of course we believe that all Christmas, pardon me, WINTER FESTIVAL displays ought to have a banner pimping for diversity.
Oh brother.
Did you hear LInday Graham yesterday..he read the dems the riot act...just about declared war if the filabuster.
