CLEWISTON — Hurricane victims who wanted water had some difficulty finding it at a relief station in Clewiston Friday. The volunteer group running a supply center doesn't like the company that donated the water, so they decided not to give it to those in line for help.
Twenty-two pallets of the canned water, distributed free by beer company Anheuser-Busch, bears the company's label – and members of the Southern Baptist Convention refused to hand it out to those in need.
Resident lined up for miles to receive food and water at the distribution point. But the water was left on the sidelines by the Alabama-based group.
"The pastor didn't want to hand out the Budweiser cans to people and that's his prerogative and I back him 100-percent," said SBC volunteer John Cook.
The SBC felt it was inappropriate to give the donation out, and they weren't happy when NBC2 wanted to know why.
"Why do you want to make that the issue? That's not the issue. The issue is that we're here trying to help people," Cook said.
No one disagrees with that, but the Red Cross says Anheuser-Busch is also trying to help.
The water has been available all along, but the SBC volunteers set it aside and few people knew it was available.
While the SBC is standing its ground, the Red Cross says water is water and they're now handing out the supplies.
The vice-president of operations for Anheuser-Busch, Mike Harding, released a statement on the donation Friday reading:
“As we have seen numerous times in recent years, safe drinking water is a critical need following natural disasters such as Hurricane Wilma. At the request of various relief agencies, Anheuser-Busch and its wholesalers have donated more than 9 million cans of drinking water since Hurricane Katrina hit in August, and when called on, we’ll continue to provide water to all victims of Wilma as long as it’s needed.”
"I don't think it makes a difference who gives it out. It's going to a good cause. It's going to help everyone," said storm victim Lisa Simmons.
And many victims are grateful Anheuser-Busch is stepping in to help.

Let's say it makes the SBC pastor look a bit less than truthful in calling them "Budweiser" cans. If this is the case, then he needs to quit misspeaking himself. No way A-B would call water "Budweiser"; it's a jealously defended name for their beer.

Dang it, this is my last post before going to bed, I swear! Yeah, joining a volunteer department is a great thing for people. It actually forced me to grow up a bit (even though you wouldn't know by my posts) and learn responsibility for my own actions, along with a degree of self-discipline. These are traits I sorely needed when I joined. Alright, it's nearly 2 AM and I can't think anymore. Last post. Seriously.

Hell, if you read about how much the founding fathers drank while writing the constitution, you've got to wonder how we didn't wind up a utopian nudist collective.
And on that tangent, Francis Scott Key stole the tune of a paganistic Bacchic drinking song for his Star Spangled Banner. This is like taking the coat off of Cindy Sheehan and putting it on Miss America and finding it becomes her very much.
Well they were wrong! Can you believe it? I'm a Rita survivor and received the Bud cans. They don't say beer on them anywhere. It plainly says Drinking Water with the company name over it. Every container of water I received had the company name on it, whoever bottled it. (the worst was from Canada, I couldn't swallow it). The Bud water tasted bad because it came in cans. It was the only water to come in cans. Just get an empty Coke can and fill it with water and drink it and you will have the Bud water. Tastes like metal.
I'm a radical extreme Southern Baptist, but I don't see the problem. When I was thirsty and brown water came out of my tap, I was grateful to get anything down the gullet. I thank Budweiser and all who gave to the effort. We weren't buying the product, it was given in charity to us. We weren't asked to support anything that we disagreed with in doctrine. I guess when Mary Madelaine dumped the perfume on Jesus' feet, He should have kicked her in the face, because of her reputation.
The Bible plainly states that Jesus drank wine and the disciples even said a little wine is good for the stomach. It also stated that it is a sin to get drunk. I just buried my brother in law from drinking, and there is no quibble with all the heartache that drinking causes families and marriages, not to mention the crosses on the side of the road, so I won't quibble with the people that believe Jesus drank grape juice. I also won't condemn a person who has a toddy every once in a while. If it becomes a problem to himself, his family, or his children, the Bible is clear that family wins, and booze should lose.
To refuse charity from a company because you don't like their product is a personal choice, not a Biblical requirement. I would have had the same reaction to water from France. We might use it to flush, but we had plenty of brown water to use for that.
I wonder if they realize that while William Tyndale translated his English Bible his food was strictly boiled beef and beer.
I received some of this water after Katrina, and I can assure you that it appears as decribed below.
"The can said "Drinking Water" and bore a black-and-white rendition of the Anheuser-Busch corporate logo."

The obvious answer to this is to bring the Baptists in one at a time. Then they will drink all they want ;)
There's a reason for this non story making news. Did you notice how the RC just happened to be mentioned. The Southern Baptist are taking in the donations the RC needs to pay it's ceo's salaries. They need to taint the competition,I'm sure we'll be hearing about the SA to.

To explain it it terms a Christian should understand:
the Southern Bigots wanted to conceal that a Samaritan provided chrity.

The "good work" in question being their determination to keep water away from thirsty people because the SBC doesn't approve of who donated the water.

How many people died in this epic of the water story?
Wasn't there others present who had no problem with handing out water from a famous Beer company, yes and the people got their water. We all know what Budweiser is famous for, Beer.
This is just a matter of some here taking this opportunity to jump on the SBC because they disagree with their stance on moral issues.
Since the SBC stand against alcohol has been very well known for years, and people ridicule them for that stance, why should someone act shocked that they may balk at the Budweiser label and instead defer to others who were available to pass them out.
