To: The Red Zone
Historically speaking, people watered down their water with alcohol all the time, be it wine, gin, vodka, or what ever. The reason for this is that you didn't die that way from dysentery. They didn't know what killed you but they knew when there was alcohol there it didn't. That's why Vodka means "good water" in old Slavonik....no one died of dysentery drinking it.

Which meant they had to be keeping a supply around at all times to spike their H2O.
