The neo-isolationists that fill the far right of the Conservative movement, fanned on by certain insincere radio hosts, have become so exorcised by Mexico that the issue is close to eclipsing the GWOT; the Global War On Terror.
The gnashing of teeth and wearing of sackcloth has, for some, reached such a fever pitch that no other issue is important to them. They are fixated on the fact that Mexico is the most dangerous thing the USA faces in the 21st century, that Mexico will destroy our culture, or destroy our economy. And this as we prosecute a war, yet.
Of course, we have major problems with our nearest neighbor to the south. We have rampant illegal crossings, drug smuggling with impunity and a loss of a large block of our economy as Mexicans send US dollars home to Mexico instead of spending it here.
But a little perspective would be nice because Mexico isnt the most imminent danger the USA faces in the neighborhood. Canada is more of an immediate threat to our security by far than is Mexico.

I like canadians who stand up for themselves... you though since post one have been looking for fights with all posters... bullying people with you opinion.. that I don't like..
Gentlemen, we must apologize to Canadian militarymen. They are a fine army, but poorly equipped and supported by their government. I know2 military people and they have a healthy respect for the Canadian military forces.
It is their GOVERNMENT'S policies that is our enemy, not their military at this point.
There is no advantag in beating up the Canadian military.
...Of course, the REST of their country IS a joke!!
Ok, Cap'n. Have a nice evening.
not even worth the response...rail away get it out of your system you'll feel better afterwards... really... venting is chatartic... at least that is what your therapist tells me..:)
So when will the rest of Canada secede from Quebec?
BTW, the question was raised as to my arrogance
and where that came from..
Well, not from strangers, that's for sure.
I was held a senior position in a U.S. company for 15 years
working and living stateside for a good portion of that time.
That's why I know there's basically no difference between the U.S.
and Canada, ethnically, linguistically, culturally and for the
most part socially and politically.
There's more diff between N.Y. and Texas or California and
Iowa then there is between the U.S. as a whole and Canada as a whole.
Similarly, there's more of a diff between most provinces then between
the U.S. and Canada.
I have been a lifelong proponent of the U.S. and Canada
becoming one country. The prospect of one united country
from the gulf to the Artic Ocean and from the Pacific to
the Altantic with all the resources to make us collectively
the largest most powerful country in the world has always
been a real possibility to me.
I think that objective is slipping.. Particularly when I read
how lowly Canada and Canadians are regarded in a forum in whose
interest it should be to work to a one country North America.
Too bad.. Too bad for us , and too bad for you cause we do have
the largest pool of untapped oil in the world.
The days of the U.S. being nice to Canada or Mexico have ended with the constant abuse of our goodwill that both countries have displayed over the last 50 years. So sit back in your Socialist Utopia and laugh away. Just remember that as your country continues to swirl down the drain, we don't care.
Oh and the threat to cut off oil supplies/electricity to the U.S. - go ahead; sure it will be a problem for a short period; a period much shorter then the economic collapse your country will suffer when we stop all trade with you. Cheers.AWB
That is what it comes down to in the end for you... oil... the power is in the oil isn't it? the real truth comes out with your argument... I do not see your ideals and lack of goodwill and attitude on this post as being indicative of all Canadians. just yourself.
I don't think this thread is really helping our friendship.
Have we lost the fact that we're talking to each other conservatives from both sides?
I can see why the right "eating their own"
The taunts and name calling came from your side of the border, pal. Anything I said was in defense.
Believe all the lies and falsehoods you want, and trash your Northern neighbours.
Just hope we're around when you really need our help.
Cause someday you will..
BTW, what I said about my family is 100% true, --- not that it appears you would have any interest in the truth...
ah no. We're all conservatives here I can tell you that.
Also, nothing wrong with defending your country when you don't agree with some articles. What's in this article is debatable.
Don't sit by your phone waiting for a call, we'll handle it ourselves. Thanks.AWB
"Just hope we're around when you really need our help."
Considering the dhimmification your PM and other politicians are doing, you guys will need US before we need you.
Dave, seems our canucktroll is back.
is this a possible retread?
He is "conservative" in one sense: defending the nation of Canada as it stands in 2005. From his perspective it will be "radical" for the likes of Steyn or David Warren or many true-blue conservatives who want to undo the Trudeaupedian changes.
