The neo-isolationists that fill the far right of the Conservative movement, fanned on by certain insincere radio hosts, have become so exorcised by Mexico that the issue is close to eclipsing the GWOT; the Global War On Terror.
The gnashing of teeth and wearing of sackcloth has, for some, reached such a fever pitch that no other issue is important to them. They are fixated on the fact that Mexico is the most dangerous thing the USA faces in the 21st century, that Mexico will destroy our culture, or destroy our economy. And this as we prosecute a war, yet.
Of course, we have major problems with our nearest neighbor to the south. We have rampant illegal crossings, drug smuggling with impunity and a loss of a large block of our economy as Mexicans send US dollars home to Mexico instead of spending it here.
But a little perspective would be nice because Mexico isnt the most imminent danger the USA faces in the neighborhood. Canada is more of an immediate threat to our security by far than is Mexico.

My computer skills are letting me down. I have been trying to download a picture of Sir Les Patterson as next Australian Ambassador to Canada. However I have had no luck. I also think that in the leadup to the next elections Paul Martin should be interviewed on prime time television by Dame Edna Everidge. By the way, do Captain Canada and other Canadians have a sense of humour? No doubt they haven't learnt never to put on airs of moral superiority around Aussies.
When we declared war on Hitlers Germany (2 years before the Yanks BTW), we had an even smaller standing army.
Our boys volunteered by the hundreds of thousands and had over 1 million volunteers - in a country of about 15 million at the time.
If the Americans really believed this was a war of survival AND had the stomach to fight, you'd see million of brave young men and women volunteering.
But you DON'T, do you.
So that begs the question.
Do young people believe that this is a war worth fighting, and if so, why don't they...
How many here who talk tough against the antiwar/socialist crowd (as you call them) signed up mor encouraged their kids to join the armed forces.
Very few I'm betting. Unfortunately, you exemplify what a lot of folks think about Americans and that is you talk a good game, but when it's time to do the dirty work, it's time to look for the exemption...
And if you can't take this sort of dialogue then don't start with your Canadians are a bunch of pussies chatter (or you can always complain to the Forum Admins to have us banned so you won't have anyone to question your tough he-man talk)....
So g'day, eh?
Yes, they do have a sense of humour (and it is British-influenced no less!), but they don't like it when they are at the receiving end. They can dish out insults at Bush but when Roy and HG start turning the tables it will be WWIII.
I understood that the whole system failed. Perhaps any other system would have failed as well . You had a whole city flood. I don't know whether those others are valid comparisons.
Aussies poke fun at everything, including their own culture.
Perhaps if you check you facts and check my page... you might see that i have already served my country faithfully.. If they would waive my disability and let me back in I would be out there on the battlefield with those boys right now...instead of arguing with you.. it would at least be more productive.
As for using the comparisons of history to now.... different times different leadership that argument does not fly.. Why don't you ask the recruiters and the kids coming out of high school that are signing up if this war is worth fighting for... I would say the recruiting numbers say yes... (the actually #'s not the hype the press wants you to believe..
I still do serve my country in the capacity of a minuteman I watch our borders I do talk the talk and walk the walk...So do a lot of other Americans... but they just walk the walk...
I won't complain about your comments they expose you for who you really are... a scream socialist liberal that has lost an argument and resorts to uniformed personal attacks on people... no skin off my nose..
as i said it is an example that is not the norm...
it actually was not a whole city just portions...
No, Dane. We do not use sharia law....yet.
The Premier of Ontario, the very liberal Dalton McGuinty said no to sharia law.
I must admit that this surprised me, but he did say no.
One thing the article barely touched on was the availability of social programs in Canada for the terrorist. The welfare system in Canada is such that a terrorist does not have to work. With the problem of work out of the way, a terrorist can spend all of their time and energies being a terrorist.
Want to find a terrorist? Start with the welfare roles with men of middle eastern origin.
Canada suffers from a national inferiority complex when it comes to the U.S. So, out of pure envy, the love to hate us. Take their national health care program that they love to talk about. What isn't commonly known is that unless one is well connected, it's a six month to a year's wait for a major surgery such as a hip or knee replacement. Additionally, those who can afford don't bother with their health system and simply travel to the U.S. for major health care needs. The fact that 90% of Canadians live within 100 miles of the U.S. border says it all.
Captain....
You are embarrassing.
This country is swarming with would-be terrorists and they are breeding like guppies.
They were openly celebrating, for crying out loud, when America was attacked on September 11th. They were chanting the name Osama bin Laden before anyone else had even heard it mentioned on the news.
If you think America doesn't have to watch what comes over our borders, you are the one smoking something. I've seen it first hand.
I do not know what you issue is, but you have stray off the argument..
plus just a little point here in the redundancy department...
"because an attack on all of us is an attack on each one of us."
I agree each one of you compromise all, but thanks for making that clear to us stupid Americans we need the help... :)
Maybe. Has to do with the location of arable land. Your stated reasons , what you imply, are hogwash.
Really ! Where was that?
In Ottawa a Petro Canada station lessee comment to customer that more should have died . I know he was reported to the RCMP and Petro Canada . He was also boycotted and forced out of business.
Thanks pal..
Nice to have a tailgunner.. ;)
Right here in Canada...
Celebrations in Burlington, Stoney Creek, Hamilton...
Sorry Cap'n, but if you think we're not crawling with them, perhaps you're just not seeing it where you are.
