ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (AP) - A 19-year-old in a black cape and helmet went on a shooting rampage Saturday in an upscale Southern California neighborhood, killing a man and his daughter before committing suicide, authorities said.
The teen shot a 45-year-old man and his 21-year-old daughter to death in their home, said Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino. A 20-year-old son escaped after hearing shots.
The shooter, whose identity wasn't released, then walked across the street and fired into another house. A person inside suffered cuts from broken glass, Amormino said.
Another neighbor heard the commotion, came outside and was confronted by the teen, who tried to fire his weapon. When it misfired, the shooter went back to his own house - less than 100 yards away - and committed suicide, Amormino said.
The motive was unknown. Police said there was no known link between the teen and his victims.
The victims' names were withheld pending family notification.
Aliso Viejo is a small, affluent community near Laguna Beach.
ALISO VIEJO is a beautiful little town in Orange County.
Darth Vader or Bin Laden, you be the judge.
Now we'll hear a lot more from CA about new gun laws that must be passed.
Prayers for the families of the victims.
If they lived on the same street, and he was roughly the same age as one victim and her brother, they might look and see if they went to the same school.
Unless one of the families was a recent arrival to the neighborhood, I'd be surprised if there weren't some links between the families. I wouldn't have much confidence in the police department.
"Aliso Viejo is a small, affluent community near Laguna Beach..."
Where mentally unhinged young adults obviously have access to weaponry. *Rolleyes* He could've as easily beaten them to death with a rolling pin, then turned it on himself.
I can hear it already; the CA gun grabbers will be in a dither over this one. Please keep me posted as to how this pans out. Thanks.
It's Badman!
OK. But while I'm ranting, why not release the name of the criminal. Probably means he is from a locally prominent family.
But isn't that just how life there is lived?
TV told me so.
obviously, we must restrict access to all Star Wars movies and related material.
for the children, don't'cha know.
Hmmm. I misread that title as "Police: Teen Goes on Shopping Spree in Upscale Southern California Neighborhood."
When I was a kid I used to think it would be great to have been born into a wealthy family. As I've grown older, I've realized I was the lucky one. Imagine being so miserable that your wanted to kill your innocent neighbors and then turn the gun on yourself. Wow!
money can't buy happiness
What ever happen to the good-old-days when impressionable young basket cases would don cape, and leap out a high window?
Not really such an animal in the area.
Just miles upon miles of (expensive) tract housing.
the old cartoons are no longer on the air, so they never get the mistaken notion that hitting the ground don't hurt.
at a guess.
Perhaps if CCW wasn't banned in CA the people killed could have defended themselves...
Sure can't. And I'd like to say that obviously, not all kids from wealthy families are this flawed. Events like this frustrate me to no end. How do you stop this sort of thing? There sure aren't any easy answers.
THE TEEN? An adult murdered...
