More Believe in Heaven Than Hell (FoxNews Poll)

NEW YORK — Most Americans believe in God, heaven, miracles and angels, and while the numbers are not quite as high, large majorities say they believe in hell and the devil.

The latest FOX News poll finds that more than nine in 10 Americans (91 percent) believe in God and almost as many believe in heaven (87 percent). In addition, 84 percent say they believe in miracles and 79 percent in angels.

What about the dark side? Almost three-quarters of Americans (74 percent) say they believe in hell and two-thirds in the devil (67 percent).

As Halloween (search) approaches, the poll also asked about ghosts and witches. A third (34 percent) believe in ghosts and a quarter in witches (24 percent). In addition, almost four in 10 Americans (37 percent) say they believe in astrology and one in four believe in reincarnation (27 percent). Hardly any say they believe in vampires (4 percent).

These results are in line with past FOX News surveys on these beliefs going back to 1997.

The greatest deception of the devil ever placed into the mind of man was that he doesn't exist.

If 91 percent believe in God, then how do any Democrats ever get elected to office? Although, I guess, if 74 percent believe in the devil, the Rats are getting their votes from there.

No. He spoke mostly about the first two commandments.

I'll get roasted for this, but the devil loves the fact that people think he doesn't exist. He loves even more that he and his demons have come to be associated with little kids, drinking, candy and parties at Halloween.

A poll is the truest form of democracy, the rule of fools by fools.

"More Believe in Heaven Than Hell"

Strange, there are more liberals in hell than conservatives.

I think the devil just needs a new advertisement campaign. Something upbeat and snappy- you know? Polish up that old fire and brimstone and teeth gnashing image into something modern and catchy.

False. You should probably read the bible, it has the information you seek.

One of the most interesting things I saw was that many less people believed in the devil than God/god. I also notice the increase in those who do not believe in God (I am in thta group).

I treat Halloween as a great big party. Kids dress up in scary costumes, funny costumes, etc. but it is all in good fun. If you don't want to participate, don't turn your lights on, and don't trick or treat. That is your choice.

Halloween has become a national tradition. Any original meaning behind it is gone.

Christmas is kind of the same way. Everyone celebrates holidays differently. I celebrate Christmas with my kids (who believe in God). We exchange gifts and are thankful for our family. It is about giving for us, not about the celebration of the birth of Christ. Modern day Christmas is a mixture of pagan and Christian rituals.

The only holiday, I believe retains its original intent is Thanksgiving.

To me the most important thing in life, whether you believe in God or not, is being a good person and having a good conscience. THAT is what defines you and becomes your legacy.

If the statistics are accurate, he is failing to fool most of those who believe in God and heaven.
