Public has had it
with both parties
Battleground poll reveals Americans disillusioned with government

A just-released political survey by George Washington University contains bad news for Democrats and Republicans because it lays bare a public seemingly disenfranchised with both major parties.
The Battleground poll unique for its inclusion of top Democrat and Republican pollsters shows a definite slide in support for President Bush and the GOP. But the survey contains little good news for Democrats as a viable alternative.
The poll found just 44 percent of the public is satisfied with President Bush's job performance a figure well below his two-term average but still slightly higher than other recent polls showing his approval at all-time lows.
"The mounting casualties of American troops in Iraq, the higher gas prices certainly put a dampening on any of the good news about the economy, and you had the surfacing scandals with Republicans in the House, the Senate and the White House, potential scandals," said GOP pollster Ed Goeas.
While a Republican retreat in the polls normally means good news for Democrats, there is little evidence Americans are enamored with the opposition party, survey results indicate. On a host of issues Iraq, homeland security, the economy Democrats don't fare much better, the poll indicated.
"There is a real void right now in terms of what the alternative is. And right now, Democrats suffer from the fact that Americans are disillusioned and distrustful of government in general," Democratic pollster Celinda Lake told Voice Of America. "They tend to be feeling more negative about the Republicans, but not particularly positive about the Democrats."
Goeas believes Democrats' inability to capitalize on Republican weakness is actually encouraging.
"But the Democrats, whether you look at the image of the Democratic Party, whether you look at Democrats in Congress, not only did not gain anything, they actually had their negatives go up some during this period of time," he told VOA.
And, the survey noted, Republicans continue to hold an edge in the public's eye on issues related to taxes and terrorism. Democrats, meanwhile, fare better with health care, jobs and education.
The mid-October poll surveyed 1,000 registered likely voters nationwide. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.
I concur
I am fed up with the two halves of the superparty as well.
People have been talking about a "third party" my entire life, yet all of them have wound up being dominated by overgrown Dungeons and Dragons players (Libertarians), Neo-Nazis and religious cultists (the Reform Party), and knuckle-dragging survivalists (The Constitution Party). Or, they merely become a "cover" for patronage (ie the Conservative Party in New York).
I think that it's time to have a draft to select our congressmen, executive, and judicial leaders. After all, we depend on draftees to man the juries, the theory being that they are free of bias. Government directed by unbiased leaders would be considerably better than those holding hidden agendas that populate the offices today.
Give him a honest look as we're serious about this.....:o)
Waste of state money will STOP !
Well, actually, I'd put the media and the Dems pretty much even.
Seriously, though, I'm sick, sick, sick of the double-standard applied to conservatives/Republicans by the MSM.
I have no way of knowing if Scooter Libby is guilty of anything (or innocent, either way).
But I don't see a bunch of Republican party hacks on tonight's gabfest shows talking about what a sleazebag Fitzgerald is, or calling Scooter's obstruction indictment "only about being forgetful in front of the grand jury."
Seven years ago, this whole thing would've been reported as a partisan witch hunt, and Tim Russert would have had Fitzgerald on his show this Sunday demanding to know why he's brought this indictment without any evidence.
No question about it.
"..except the principle of getting reelected"
That's true of both parties, Rat's have no principles and the Pub's have no spine. Politicians are primarily concerned with keeping their jobs because politics has become a 'career path' instead of what it was intended to be; a uncompromised service to the Nation.
I'll check him out but I live in Cheesheadland (Wisconsin) so the best I'd be able to do is try to talk a few Texans (all lib-Dim leaning) I know into considering him.
"The party doesn't care at all about principles..."
But I do, and I try to vote for people with principles. Maybe this thing with Miers will jolt Bush and other like-minded politicians that they cannot take conservatives for granted. If people are getting fed up with rhinos, and they ought to be, they better let their votes reflect it.
"...a(n) uncompromised service to the Nation."
I couldn't agree more.
Don't tell anyone but ever since they backdoored Tom Landry at Dallas I have been a Green Bay fan.....:o)
"all reasonable, patriotic people long for a leader who is a true believer. Bush is a true believer in Iraq, and there's nothing wrong with that, but he's not a true believer in much else."
He believes in you and me. He has faith in the American People. He believes in Freedom and Capitalism. He believes in GOD. These are but a few things proven.

When reading all the nonsense about the President's current job approval ratings just remember the following:
IT'S THE PERSONAL APPROVAL RATING THAT COUNTS!
"While the President's job approval is upside down by net 10 points, the PERSONAL APPROVAL of George W Bush is still running 2 to 1 net positive. Whether voters approve or disapprove of the way George W Bush is handling his job as President, they were asked what their impression was of him as a person. Sixty-one percent (61%) of voters approve of President Bush personally, while thirty-one percent (31%) disapprove of him. [According to Goeas, Clinton's personal approval ratings never rose above 40%]. There is also positive intensity to voters' response to this question. Forty-three percent (43%) of voters "strongly" approve of the president personally, while only twenty-four percent (24%) "strongly" disapprove of the President on a personal level. IT IS THIS LIKEABILITY FACTOR OF GEORGE W BUSH THAT PROVIDES THE PRESIDENT AND REPUBLICANS WITH A ROADMAP TO REBUILD THEIR SUPPORT AMONG THE AMERICAN ELECTORATE. [NOTE: No such (likeable) person exists on the Democrat side!]

Torrance Battleground Poll 2006

FYI: Job approval polls ALWAYS correlate with the general public's PERCEPTION of the economy. As Clinton's LOW personal approval/high job approval ratings indicated, the public didn't particularly like him, but they did like the economy.
NEXT SPRING, when the public has survived the winter with lower than expected heating bills; when gasoline prices dip below $2.00; when the post-hurricane unemployment rate continues to fall (and the job creation rate continues its upward tick); and when the GDP continues to grow at a robust rate (e.g., today's unexpectedly high 3.8%) the public will finally figure out that the economy is fine -- JA ratings will track upward accordingly.
GENERAL ASIDE: FR seems to have become a refuge for the chronically depressed, despondent, and diluded -- time for me to get some 'fresh air' (too much time in this negatively charged 'echo chamber' is detrimental to my mental health)!
No. I was once a member of the LP, then I realized that every dime I gave them came back to me in the form of fundraising appeals. I also learned that if you don't buy into anarchism then you differ from the party line. There's a huge difference between libertarianism and anarchy, but the LP doesn't seem to be aware of it.
I second that motion. The LP is libertarianism's worst enemy, because it totally misrepresents what libertarianism means.
A real libertarian would not choose, for example, open borders over sovereignty.
Why don't you stick around and try and infuse some life back in it?
Perhaps the people are finally realizing that each and every current politician whether federal, state or local can be placed in only one of three classes: Foul, Fouler and Foulest!
Surely you jest...
You don't look too Texan in that photo with the glass of fancy wine and the suit!
