Senator Clinton Urges President To Select Next Supreme Court Nominee By Consensus
NY 1 ^ | October 27, 2005 | NY 1 News

As the president prepares to select a new nominee for the Supreme Court, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton released a statement urging the president to select the next nominee carefully.

"I urge the president to take seriously the Constitution's charge and to engage the U.S. Senate – both Republicans and Democrats – in a process of genuine consultation in order to identify and ultimately confirm a consensus nominee," the New York senator said in a statement Thursday.

Harriet Miers withdrew her nomination to the Supreme Court Thursday amid escalating criticism about her qualifications for the job.

The president said he reluctantly accepted Miers' decision to withdraw.

Over the past few weeks, President George W. Bush has reiterated his support for the embattled nominee. He attributes her withdrawal to members of the Senate who have called for the release of internal White House documents.

Senator Chuck Schumer, who serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee, took issue with that defense.

"The White House offered a nominee who had no record except for the documents, and then said, we won't give you the documents," said Schumer. "It was sort of like saying, the president kept saying, the more you learn about Harriet Miers, the more you'll like her. And then said, I'm not going to let you learn about her."

Miers' current post is White House Counsel. She has never served as a judge.

The president has known Miers professionally since his days as the Governor of Texas.

Her rationale for withdrawing is noted in a letter to the president, which read in part: "I am concerned that the confirmation process presents a burden for the White House and our staff that is not in the best interests of the country."

A senior White House official said Bush is quickly trying to find a new nominee to replace retiring justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

Know why the junior senator from NY will take off her panties this Monday evening?

(Sorry about that mental image, btw)

`Cause she finds it helps her get a better grip on the broom-handle.

What ever happened to the day-after-the-election W? Remember that guy who had been given a mandate by the people? We might have a conservative nominee, if only he would return to us!

Hey,I know! Massachusetts and New York are just about the worst that you'll find in this country. However,I can't recall Mass electing any carpetbaggers who clearly had/have presidential ambitions(all our political scumbags are home grown).New York has done it twice (The Former Twelfth Lady and RFK).

Me three. I hope we're past the `rough sledding'.
It's been a bumpy ride this past month.

You feel better about Ted Kennedy and John Kerry because they are from your state ?

That is a strange comparison but so be it.

Liberals love "concensus" rather than straight votes. The individual means nothing from their marxist viewpoint.

I remember a lot of fun years ago when some of us members of the local Womens' Republican Club decided just for fun to join the local League of Women Vipers. About 6 of us did so. We were all conservatives, and we wanted to find out first-hand and from the inside what the LWV was about and what makes them so influential in local issues.

We stuck it out with the whacky members (generally, bored, dumb liberal wives of rich husbands, you get the idea) for about 6 months.

We found you don't vote on issues to support in the LWV chapters. Info and literature come from on high the League's offices in DC. It's all slanted to the left.

After mind-numbing "discussions" of the issue based on literature from the DC controllers, no vote is taken by the organization that touts "women voters."

A decision is reached by "concensus". If you have a contrary vote you wish to cast, you're SOL.

Years ago, one League Chapter decided to go against the national League position.....and it was kicked out of the organization.

Well, we Republican babes learned a lot and then we all strategically left one by one. Our infiltration was at an end. No sense in remaining in the League to fight on....it's all a sham and won't change. We had a great time, though.

Anyway, it's no surprise that national socialist Hillary loves "concensus". This is how the minority rules the minority in tightly-controlled situations and attains outcomes that are pre-planned.

Maybe I'm slow but what is posted doesn't add up to me. Can you expand on the relationship between your conclusions and Madison's note? Thanks in advance.

You're forgiven. :)

I think Miz Hillary does know about the Constitution and who gets to name the SC nominee. This is just a political move...to get her name in the paper and her face on tv. After all, she's getting ready for 2008.

Dems love to use certain buzzwords like "consensus" when they have anything to say. I think it's probably in that liberal socialist manual they all carry around. It sounds good to most people, instead of saying "liberal socialist" or something like that.

Sad thing is that there are people who actually fall for these little sound bytes. And these folks are allowed to vote. That's why it's so important for the rest of us to get out there and vote -- so communists like Miz Hillary don't become President.

All these Senators need to remember: the past four weeks, DeWine's son, and Daschle.

We are not kidding when it comes to the Court. There will be payback to anyone that doesn't toe the line. The RINO's and the Dems in vulnerable states better think long and hard about whether they want to have a chance at re-election.

Oh, and Hillary. I realize Reid chose the last nomination but you missed the boat. You will not choose the next one.
