TIME TRAVEL

This new machine is working just great. ARE YOU READY? The Canteen is about to embark on another journey back in time.

If you're brave enough, climb aboard, no ticket required……we're about to take off.

Come on, hop in, watch your step ...... Let me set my controls.

Buckle up. Now don't be afraid....I know how to fly this thing.......Here we goooooooooo.......LIFT OFF……..

WHOOOOOOSHHHHHHHH

Landing with a gentle thump. Here we are - Let me turn on the television to see what is on.

Do any of you remember these shows?

Steven Rogers as Doc (1962-63)

Combat Theme Song

None listed

Combat Tidbits

Combat depicted the lives of one platoon of soldiers fighting their way across Europe in World War II. The long running show was very realistic, even to the point of using actual war footage in some epsiodes. And unlike many other WWII shows, this cast was sent to "boot camp" before filming began. Neither the war nor the cast was ever portrayed ina glamorous way.

Passings

Vic Morrow died in 1982 as a result of a helicopter crash on the set of "Twilight Zone:The Movie," Dick Peabody in 1999 of prostrate cancer and Rick Jason in 2000 of self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Rat Patrol

September 1966-September 1968 – ABC

Color - 30 minutes

Justin Tarr as Pvt. Tully Pettigrew

Regular Guests:

Manfred Lating as Orderly / Lt. Strum / ... (11 episodes)

Norbert Meisel as Truck Driver / German Guard / ... (6 episodes)

Stanley Adams as El Gamil (3 episodes)

Claudine Longet as Marianne (2 episodes)

Michael Vandever as Lt. Dorf / Lt. Reiner (2 episodes)

Rat Patrol Theme Song

None listed

Rat Patrol Tidbits

Set in North Africa during World War II, this series chronicles the adventures of a 4-man team of commandos within the Long Range Desert Group. (In utter defiance of historical accuracy, the team consists of three Americans and one Brit.) Armed with jeeps equipped with .50-caliber machine guns--and endless chutzpah--they wage a highly irregular war against Rommel's Afrika Korps. Their most common nemesis is Hauptmann Dietrich, though Dietrich and the Rats join forces from time to time against a common enemy.

Each episodes title had the word Raid in it. This show rode in on the heels of the highly popular COMBAT. However it sadly lacked the excitement and interesting story lines that Combat had. The same U.S. and British guys fought the same German Afrika Corp guy week in and week out. Sometimes they all teamed up with each other. The stories in those weren't any better.

The red cap that Pvt. Hitchcock wears is a Civil War Confederate artillery lieutenant's kepi.

Passings

Didn’t find anything on this

Special Note: The information on this series was very sketchy and I had to piece a lot of it together. If you see errors or can add anything else, feel free to say something.

F Troop

9/14/1965 – 8/31/1967 ABC

Black and White/Color – 30 minutes

F Troop Cast

Forrest Tucker as Sgt. Morgan O'Rourke

Larry Storch as Cpl. Randolph Agarn

Melody Patterson as Wrangler Jane Angelica Thrift

Frank DeKova as Chief Wild Eagle

Don Diamond as Crazy Cat

James Hampton as Trooper Hannibal Dobbs

Bob Steele as Trooper Duffy

Joe Brooks as Trooper Vanderbilt

John Mitchum as Trooper Hoffenmueller

Regular guests:

Ivan Bell as Trooper Duddleson (6 episodes)

Benny Baker as Pete / Pete the Bartender (4 episodes)

Ben Frommer as Smokey Bear / Papa Bear (4 episodes)

Harvey Parry as Charlie / Charley / ... (3 episodes)

James Gregory as Major Duncan / Big Jim Parker (3 episodes)

F Troop Theme Song

None listed. There is one but could not find it.

F Trooop Tidbits

The stars of this military farce were the gallant incompetents of F Troop at Fort Courage, somewhere west of the Missouri, in post-Civil War days. The CO was the wide-eyed, bumbling Captain Parmenter, who had been promoted from private during the closing days of the war when he accidentally led a charge in the wrong direction, toward the enemy. Unbeknowst to the captain, Sgt. O'Rourke had already negotiated a secret, and highly profitable treaty with the Hekawi Indians, from whom he also had an exclusive franchise to sell their souvenirs to tourists. There was no peace treaty with the Shugs, however, and they sometimes caused trouble. Cpl. Agarn was O'Rourke's chief aid and assistant schemer, and Wrangler Jane the hard-riding, fast-shooting cowgirl who was out to marry Parmenter.

Passings

Once again I found nothing on this.

That's the end of the ride for today. Please watch your step on exiting the time machine. Now that I've shown you a few, how about you share something from your memory. Or, if one of these were your favorite show then, share a memory of the best episode for you.

Sgt. Hector Alvarado, with Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 84th Infantry Regiment, rides a children's bicycle as he is pushed along by his comrades during a foot patrol through southern Baghdad on Sunday.

Critics of the current administration are fed up that our Troops are riding around in unarmored children's bicycles.

Staff Sgt. David Shono from Hartford, Wis., of the 1st Battalion, 188th Infantry Regiment, Wisconsin Army National Guard, looks at photos of those imprisoned and killed during the Saddam regime at a memorial center in Dujail, Iraq, on Sunday.

The main stream media is protesting the use of facts concerning victims of Saddam in any trial of the former benevolent despot who only killed thousands of his fellow citizens because he was only giving orders.

A Navy helicopter crewman, right, watches a Pakistani soldier unload relief goods from a helicopter in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan, on Saturday. The situation in the area remains dire two weeks after the earthquake, which the Pakistani government said has killed over 50,000 and injured 74,500 with more than three million men, women and children also rendered homeless.

The military found it neccesary to call in the Pakistan peoples's distant cousins from the obscure nation of UnPakistan in order to efficiently unload the helicopters of the relief goods.

Marines examine a roll of film found while patrolling through Ramadi, Iraq on Saturday.

Most of the Troops these days have digital cameras, and were all amazed at the primitive photographic technolgy still being used by the insurgency.

Guests line up to tour the retired Air Force One Boeing 707 aircraft after dedication ceremonies at the Ronald Reagan Library and Museum in Simi Valley, Calif., on Friday.

Tyler Shea, 4, left, holds his ears while his dad, Pat, helps sister Camryn, 2, dampen the sound of an F/A-18 Super Hornet during an air show at Point Mugu, Calif., on Sunday.

Pop, we simply do not want to hear that it is already bed time when all of the other kids are still up with their dads riding around in supersonic jets.

A huge explosion is seen in downtown Baghdad on Monday. Three suicide bombers struck the Palestine and Sheraton hotels, killing 17.

I'm not one of them, but some folks think that Baghdad looks good in smoke and ashes. The left wing media is yet to weigh in on this particular area's best side.

A soldier from the 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment stands in the middle of a fish market during a search for insurgents in neighborhoods close to downtown Mosul, Iraq, on Tuesday.

Hey Sarge, I just found out who has been stealing your copies of the New York Times.

Heather Richards, left, kisses husband Capt. Arthur Richards of the 278th Regimental Combat Team, Tennessee National Guard, as he returns to Camp Shelby in Hattiesburg, Miss., on Monday after serving almost a year in Iraq.
