"Bushbots will never accept that Bush is the only one to blame for any of this fiasco."

I blame Bush for not taking a chance in the first place with another nominee (I wanted and still want Janice Rogers Brown), but I blame many on our side for the tactics employed against Miers. It was all based on what people THOUGHT Miers MIGHT or MIGHT NOT do. The lady deserved a fair hearing. Period. She also deserved to be treated fairly. I guess she now knows how Robert Bork feels.

Here is another statement from the other side:

H"arriet Miers' withdrawal from her Supreme Court nomination demonstrates that ultraconservatives are so determined to swing the Supreme Court sharply to the right that they pounded their own president's nominee into submission, and now demand a nominee with unquestioned far-right credentials, said Ralph G. Neas, President of People For the American Way.

"It's an astonishing spectacle. The unelected power-brokers of the far right have forced the withdrawal of President Bush's own Supreme Court nominee, before a confirmation hearing has even been held. President Bush's complete capitulation to the far-right interest groups is astounding. The ultra-right wing dominance of Republican Party politics is complete, and they have dealt a terrible blow to an already weakened President and his administration." ~ Ralph Neas

The Miers episode WILL be used against the next nominee. My complaint is that there had to be a better way than jumping up and down, beating our chests and tearing out our hair like spoilt children who didn't get the pony they wanted for Christmas.

I don't want to be accused of using the democrats talking points, but this is exactly what happened.

The same thing has been happening to the Republicans in California for years. A small minority of far righters have pushed us out of politics and now the dems make the rules.

Look, this isn't a "pony," it's a SUPREME COURT NOMINATION. Nearly every radical change in the federal government over the last 50 years was accomplished by judicial decree. If we don't win the battle to restore the court to it's Constitutional bounds, we lose the war. It's as simple as that. A SCOTUS that follows the Constitution is in the best interests of all US citizens. Even the libs are better served by a court that follows the plain intent of the law. It may not be common knowledge, but there is a legal method of rewriting the Constitution. It's called an amendment.

What you described never happened. Get over it.
