The United Nations Security Council today took up discussion on what Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad might have meant when he called for Israel to be "wiped out from the map".
Secretary General Kofi Annan said Iran, as a member of the U.N., must be given the benefit of the doubt that the phrase was intended to encourage peaceful diplomacy.
"'Wiped' is a word that can denote cleanliness," said Mr. Annan. "The Iranian president may have simply meant that the map should be cleaned so Israel's legitmate borders are easier to see."
Mr. Ahmadinejad's remarks came during the month-long 'World without Zionism' celebration, and echoed the Ayatollah Khomeini's previous comments about map hygiene.
In related news, the U.S. House today begins debate on creation of a month-long holiday called 'World Without Islamofascism.'
President George Bush said he looks forward to celebrating the new holiday with a ceremonial "wiping of the map."
---"'Wiped' is a word that can denote cleanliness,---
yeah, right!
And Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah decried the measure to remove Israel, saying that without Jews, the Saudis would have no one to hate.
"This is unthinkable," said the King.
The UN is the epitome of the 3 letter word that commonly precedes "wipe".
Yea, It can be confusing. Alot of people think Mr Annan should also be wiped from the face of the earth. But, I'm sure that means he needs to...uh....wipe better!!!
I believe the Secretray General is an 'ass wipe' and nothing about him denotes clean.
Careeer diplomats should be boiled in oil. If the Iranian towelhead had said "all Israeli dogs should be strung up in the street, their pocessions taken, their children burned and their bodies pushed into the sea," then the un-honerable Kofi Annan would say, "we are concerned that the Iranian president feels this way about housepets, but we are sure it was intended to encourage the peaceful transition of Israel from the hands of the infidels. Whups, did I say that out loud?"
"'Wiped' is a word that can denote cleanliness," said Mr. Annan. "The Iranian president may have simply meant that the map should be cleaned so Israel's legitmate borders are easier to see."
It is getting pretty bad when World Leaders must resort to this pathetic level of spin doctoring to cover for the lunatic fringe.
Ummm, I think some here are forgetting that this is political humor, not an actual news report...
Its too realistic to take as fake.
As time goes on in this whacked out political climate, its hard to discern sarcastic exaggeration from real news. The real news is worse.
They are looking for a Bill Clinton definition!
Almost got me....
Next time please indicate "satire" in your post.
Almost had me there, of course there was one thing wrong with the story. There was no "Letter of Deep Concern" mentioned. That's when I knew the story was bogus.
He should. After all, Kofi is "Famous Anus"!
Geez, Pookie - I had to look at the source of the story to realize it was satire! The trouble is, in today's political landscape, this is way too close to the truth.
ROFL! Annan is either a complete buffoon, or he firmly believes everyone else in the world is.
