I think Ms. Miers has been unfairly treated by many who have for years urged fair treatment of judicial nominees.
She deserves great thanks for her significant service to the country. She and the president deserved much better from his allies
And this is why I wouldn't give you thirty minutes of my time to listen to Hugh. Hugh, when it comes to conservatism, you just do not get it.
I believe it is far better to be an ally of the founding fathers and original intent, that to sell my soul to a sitting president from either party.
"She and the president deserved much better from his allies"
I agree. The way she has been treated is shameful.
Allies? What stinkin' allies. I can not imagine how President Bush feels, as he continues to lead the country, as every law, rule, tradition and the constitution its self is changed before his very eyes.
> ... the president deserved much better from his allies ...
Many of whom thought so little of their own influence
that they went publically negative rather than just
privately sharing their objections with the White House.
I note that Limbaugh and Hannity managed to avoid
publically stating a position, although they may well
have had one. They did enumerate the concerns.
The more vocal opponents, like Coulter, Krauthammer, etc.
may have wounded themselves in this mess.
Sorry Hugh but this was too important to give W a pass. Long after George is gone his USSC nominee will be still be there making decisions which effect the lives of us all. There comes a time when you have to stand firm and dig in - this was it.

"And this is why I wouldn't give you thirty minutes of my time to listen to Hugh. Hugh, when it comes to conservatism, you just do not get it."
From the conservater-than-thou side of the aisle.
You guys don't understand what you have done to hurt
the president. You guys are like that Brit colonel
in the Bridge On The River Kwai who realized that, by
building a bridge, had destroyed himself. His dying
words were "What have I done?"
Hugh has done more for conservativism and conservatives
than you guys have, and that's why I choose to listen to
him and men and women like him, rather than YOU guys.
I need to read up on her.
So, according to Hewitt's logic . . . well, never mind.
Just keep licking GWB's moderate butt, Hugh.
I do listen to Hugh...but on this he has no credibility. He has been wrong about it at ever pass...Just yesterday he was INSISTSING that she would NEVER withdraw. Now all of a sudden his opinion should matter? I think not. I would argue hugh that the presidents allies deserved better treatment on a SCOTUS nominee than the president gave. And SHAME on you hugh for not seeing that.
The trashing of Miers was not the way to go about it.

I like Hugh but on this I think he's just plain wrong.
The problem is that the conservative opponents made an ideological litmus test legitimate. Now they cannot complain when the D's do it. Hewitt is right.
Someone ask Hugh if he read the text of her Dallas speech. If he takes the time to do so, he will learn why the nomination ended this morning.
Thank you for your response. I believe your analogy is flawed, but that's okay. Take care.
"I think Ms. Miers has been unfairly treated by many..."

No, not at all. She was simply the wrong pick for the job and the situation on the SCOTUS. Real simple. She did not carry the proper credentials. Bush was wrong to put her up for this, and she was wrong to think she was qualifed for this very sensitive slot.
