Wolfstar, this is a solitary moment in time where the ubercons actually think they've won something.
Give them their moment in the sun. They'll be angry again tomorrow.
That's the way it works with people who are such a tiny, powerless minority....

I find it disturbing that there are so many bomb-throwers here that want him to stick his thumbs in the eyes of our opponents just for the sake of doing it. It's about the fight, TbV. I've seen it dozens of times in the past three weeks.
No matter if the candidate actually gets ON the Court. As long as there's blood on the floor with the Democrats, there's happiness and sunshine in the land.

The right nominee will heal the split instaneously.
Exactly - an ORIGINALIST will unite social conservatives, moderates and fiscal Republicans all at once.

I didn't see the pdf at the end of your link. When I click on an article that requires pdf, my computer has a driver problem...whatever that means. Anyhow, were any of those people in your link, a common man type? One, who an everyday person could look up too and aspire to become a SCJ? Not a position for only blue bloods with impeccable ivy league credentials need apply type of person.

Can we agree that most posters were reasonable, some weren't, it's over, now let's go kick some socialist ass?***************
I'm not sure I completely agree with the first part of your sentence, but I'm all for the second.

If Bush tries another stealth candidate, or anyone but a known, proven strict constructionist conservative, there will be a civil war in the Republican ranks and it will be the end of the coalition.
I would say that it would be a fight that makes the whole Meiers fiasco look like a tea party.

"Republicans eat their own."
It's only cause we are all so sweet. Those of us who shun dessert, prefer to pig out on democrats. But only after they have been cooked well done at extreme temperatures, of course.

Harriet Miers' humanity has never been in question ... has never been attacked ... and, has never been the problem.
Caligula's horse and lesbian for starts? I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt for now, but if you post that again I will prove it a bald-faced lie.

I am so glad Meirs withdrew. She did the right thing and she is to be respected for that. Now I can go back to my
mantra, TED OLSON, TED OLSON, TED OLSON. Please!!!!
I am frankly hoping the President nominates a man. I am sick of the PC police everywhere saying it has to be a woman. And yes, I am a woman.
To: Alamo-Girl
You make a sobering point: perhaps this will put a stealth Souter onto the court.
Nonetheless, I still think it makes sense to demonstrate what the real republican senatorial support looks like. I'm pretty sure that there are 11 who will not support a hardline approach to this nomination.
That means we get......something moderate?

At no time in the past three weeks have any of the anti Miers crowd shut up. I've opted, from time to time, to not provide correction or citation to some posts that a month ago I would have added more or less "sterile" input. I've made that decision based on poster.

No.
Edith JONES!
She's been passed over too many times.
Besides, if you can't nominate Robert Bork, you might as well nominate the next best thing.
:)
To: Soul Seeker; Cboldt
I'm certain they'll be chiming that refrain before too long. I am certain the RINO's had a firm look of what awaits them, and it isn't pretty if they don't support a good nomination. Further, the red state Dems have to be shaking this morning. Their nerves must be frayed at the idea of what might be coming. EXACTLY!!!

As long as a conservative originalist gets on the Court, and the blood on the floor belongs to the dems, we'll call it a victory. I can be happy on my own.
