The train moves whenever there's a home run, but it's mostly a bunch of noise. To me, it's one of the least impressive part of the show. At the Texas Rangers park in Arlington, a homer draws a nice fireworks display and the music from "The Natural". A little more impressive.

The bee noise is a part of the Killer B concept. The Astros have at least 4 players whose name begins with a B: Biggio, Bagwell, Berkman and Backe. There used to be more. Anyway, since there's a number of "B's" the created this marketing concept of the Killer B's, along with the buzzing noise, the Bee Hive, etc.

Both of them got hot at the right time.

Yep, sometimes those stars and planets line up just right. ;-)

As for the bees buzzing, the Astros have a history of several players with the last name starting with B knows as the Killer Bs.

Biggio-Bagwell-Berkman and other miscellaneous players.

Backe! Maybe he should have pitched game 1, instead of the Rocket.

They won't hit Backe if they keep swinging at that low slider.

De train, De train

Minute Maid Park (formerly known as Enron Field and Astros Field) in Houston, TX houses this 48,000 pound, 57 foot long replica of a 19th century locomotive (circa 1860) and linked coal tender. When the Houston Astros hit a home run, the train blows its whistle and runs down 800 feet of track on the west side of the park, at a lightning speed of 10 MPH. The train provides a link to the past for Houston and Union Station (the site of the ballpark). The train was designed by Uni-systems and built by SMI & Hydraulics, which also provided the transporters for the retractable roof at the park.

Huh, interesting... thanks. Well, at Fenway Park, whenever a Red Sox batter hits a home run, the crowd cheers loudly... that's about it. Same at Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium (Mets), Oriole Park at Camden Yards, etc.

At Citizens Bank Park (Philadelphia Phillies), a lighted Liberty Bell rings and moves back and forth. The Red Sox farm team - the Portland Sea Dogs (Portland, Maine) - have a lighthouse that pops up and sounds a foghorn whenever a Sea Dog hits a homer. Some interesting traditions...
