Oh, I am enraged.
I went to Target (TARGET, of all places!) to purchase the last few things I needed to finish off my toddler son's Halloween costume. He's going to be a cowboy -- jeans, boots, flannel shirt, leather vest, sherrif's star, hat...and little gunbelts, if I can actually ever GET them.
Because Target doesn't carry "gun-based toys." According to the employee (and manager) I asked, it's "socially irresponsible" to expose kids to guns.
MEANWHILE, they have about eighty damn copies of "Grand Theft Auto."
"Socially irresponsible."
Anyone have any ideas where I can get cowboy accessories?
Go to the Gay part of town. Plenty of cowboy costumes there.
Walmart may be a good choice and they also have stuffed, cloth 'horses' that the child 'wears' around their waist. It's supposed to look like they're riding. They're really cute!
Didn't William Rivers Pitt dress up like a cowboy when he went down to Crawford to receive enlightenment athe feet of the holy Sheehan?
Spray paint them silver. If you can find them, they're going to be flouro-orange or transparent green, even if they are realistic gun shaped.
I wrote here once before: Seven years or so ago, we taped some Animaniac episodes. One episode was set during the Revolutionary War. On the deck of the Boston Tea Party ship, Elmer Fudd walks by and reports "Be verwe verwe quiet! We are hunting Wedcoats! Huuuhhhhhhhh!"
Well, if you just caught it quick, you would see himn carrying what looks like an old-fashioned blunderbus. But if you freeze frame, you can see it is a flipping bell held upright. Now this means that the producer (Spielburg) is so offended by the sight of a gun in his work, even when it is historically accurate to the time, that he has to delete it...but more than that, he has to indulge in a kind of lie to make grumpy old Wepublicans like me think we saw a gun. PC Lie upon PC Lie!
Get him the real thing! Since he's only a toddler I recommend the Ruger Single Six in 22LR.
I actually considered my old .22 (my first gun!) as a possibility...unloaded, with the firing pin removed. But then I figured that some of my neighbors are such screaming PC drama queens that it might not be worth the hassle.
"Would that be the same Target that doesn't allow the Salvation Army to solicit on their properties at Christmas?"
and sells, or is going to be selling, vibrators and other "beauty" aids.
"On the contrary -- it can be a very healthy thing . . ."
Funny picture! Reminds me of fleet week a few years ago. I took my 3-year-old daughter to see the ships and there was a squad of marines showing off equipment just like in your picture. These marines took great glee in putting a camo-hat & webbing on her and getting her behind the machine-gun.
She obliged the devil-dogs by making the machine-gun noises as she struggled to swivel the weapon "tat, tat, tat, tat, tat, tat..."
She was rewarded for her effort with a smart salute which she tried to return.
Of course, I was without a camera.
Anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan, from Vacaville, Calif., pulls back her rain poncho as she speaks to reporters in front of the White House, Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, in Washington. With the U.S. military death toll in Iraq poised to surpass 2,000, Sheehan, who camped for 26 days in front of Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, spoke about her planned protest vigils to be held in front of the White House. The 2,000th casualty has her grinning with satisfaction.
