KENTWOOD IN THE PINES An airborne wild turkey struck a motorcyclist on state Route 79 yesterday.
Two turkeys were walking across southbound Route 79 near Royal Drive about 11:15 a.m., said Officer Brian Pennings of the California Highway Patrol.
One turkey began to fly and struck a southbound motorcyclist in the chest. The impact caused the rider of the 2001 Harley Davidson Softail to cross into the northbound lanes and go into an embankment.
The 56-year-old man hit a manzanita bush and rolled over twice. He was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered abrasions to the right side of his face and complained of back and chest pain, Pennings said.
He was flown by Mercy Air to an area hospital and was in serious condition.
The turkey that hit the man died, Pennings said.
The fate of the second turkey wasn't known.

Oceanside officer convicted of DUI VISTA An Oceanside police officer was convicted yesterday of a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of drugs.
Eric Anderson, 39, faces a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a fine when he is sentenced, which is scheduled for Nov. 10.
While off-duty Feb. 3, Anderson rolled his truck on state Route 76 near Guajome Lake Road and damaged a sign. Later, in the parking lot of a nearby Home Depot, he ran over a stop sign. No one was injured in either accident.
During closing arguments, prosecutor Angela Barkin told the jury that Anderson had taken the sedatives Ultram and Librium the day of the accidents. Users are warned not to operate machinery.
Defense attorney Gregory Emerson told jurors during his closing argument that even though medication was found in his system, there was no evidence the drugs contributed to the accidents.
Barkin said the Oceanside Police Department will determine how the conviction will affect Anderson's career. A spokesman from the department did not return phone messages seeking comment yesterday.
He was flown by Mercy Air to an area hospital and was in serious condition.

Doesn't anybody wonder WHY?
Chicken walks into a bar. The bartender says, "Sorry, wrong joke."
Don't let those turkeys get you.
"Doesn't anybody wonder WHY?
"
To get to the other side?
Wild turkeys are pretty common in California, these days.
Doesn't anybody wonder WHY?
To get to the uther side. DUH!
So......when is the turkey dinner?
Bad, Turkey, bad!
it's getting to be that time of the season. Believe it or not there are some women in San Diego that serve dead bird for dinner around the end of Novemeber. Imagine that! Some of these same San Diegans have claimed to hear actual human voices coming from radios!
"Oh the humanity!"
Man, I *hate* it when that happens.

When you're driving down the highway at night
And you're feelin' that wild turkey's bite
Don't give Johnny Walker a ride
Cause Jack Black is right by your side
You might get taken to the jailhouse and find
You've been arrested for driving while blind
Soon, very soon.
The sweet potaters are almost done.;-)
I had a room mate who used to get hit with Wild Turkey every week. Sometimes he wouldn't wake up until noon the next day.
This gives a whole new meaning to the term "giving the biker the bird" . . .
I've gotten hurt by Wild Turkey before myself, only in bottle form.
No, it's quite obvious. Those two birds were out trying to find their dealer and score some Tryptophan. Let's hope the authorities find the supplier and give him a good roasting.
Was that the 101... or the 85?
A couple of years ago I was returning in the evening from fishing on a winding and narrow road.
I had a guy tailgating me in a big sized new pickup. I went around a curve and a flight of wild turkeys just missed me.
He nailed about 12 big birds. That stopped his tailgating. He pulled over to pull the dead birds out of his grill and one in his window. The front window and the passenger side window looked like someone had thrown 12 to 20# bricks at the windows.
The good news, he had enough dead and dying wild turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas for really large reunions.
Entrance to (the) 280.
LOL
you beat me to posting that pic
