Today's Utah papers have articles about the 2000th soldier death in Iraq - links are below.
A correction has been sent to the reporters of the D-News. Utah Rally for Peace has not organized tonight's rally. People for Peace and Justice of Utah has been organizing the rally for tonight since the September 24th event - long before the national organizations put out the call.

About tonight's vigil:
There are indications that pro-war people will turn out to confront people who are coming to vigil. One national conservative radio talk show host last night billed Salt Lake's vigil as anti-american, unpatriotic, and that vigilers would be telling the public that our soldiers "threw their lives away". Of course, we know this is false.
If "anti-protestors" show up, please do not engage in confrontational conversation with them. That is what they want. The advice is to respond neutrally to any questions you may be asked but to not respond to violent remarks or questions. The tactics of shouting, name calling, in-your-face interrupting comments should not be tolerated yet at the same time responses should not be returned in the same manner and could be returned with a more neutral stance. Listening is also important. If a pro-war person really wants to shout at you, let him/her. Try to hear what he/she is saying and ask questions back in a non-threatening way.
Also, this is a sidewalk vigil - not a Federal Building Plaza vigil. We will not be permitted on the Federal Building Plaza. Since there is likely to be lots of people, we are advising folks to spread out on all four corners of the square there. If we are asked to disperse by police, we are advising vigilers to stay and start a moving vigil - from corner to corner - which is legal.
Most of all, this is a somber event. Not one more death - Not one more dollar. We want to convey this and similar messages to the public and the media in non-violent fashion. Let's make every attempt this evening to get the message out in that manner.
Please forward any questions to PPJ or 801-502-8556.
Thanks, and see you this evening.
Bring signs, flags etc.
I have freeped these folks before. Although they speak of no confrontation etc in their post; it is lip service. I have personally witnessed them trying to chase/initmitade the opposition off street corners. Nevertheless, keep you cool and don't let them cow you.
If there are any who wish to be added or taken off the Utah ping list, let me know.
"On this auspicious day........"

You don't support the troops by subverting their mission.
They actually think a death watch party makes them look compassionate and caring.
Ghouls.
But what about the 1999th and 2001st? They just can't pull numbers out of the sky.
I see your point. Their vigil is intended as anything but a memorial service nevertheless they will spin it as such and the MSM will march along with it. Scrub that sign idea.
Wouldn't it be nice to see a celebration for number of enemy killed?
In their eyes, this is a celebration of enemy killed.
Don't get off of work til then.

As stated, I've freeped these guys several times. In each instance the media has only shown images of the minority non-vulgar signs (didn't show the Bush=Hitler, swastika, f* this and that stuff etc etc) and interview the few who look like they actually got out of bed and changed clothes in the morning (harsh, yes, but so far it is true).
If the media interviews you, remember to think before you speak. If you say outrageous stuff like 'they have our troops blood on their hands or they are happy our troops are dead' it will make the news and cast us in a bad light. At the same time, similar statements they make will be given a pass. Some reporters are fairer than others but, as a rule, don't expect to get a fair reporter.
Add me to the ping list. I live in Loga, though I won't be able to make it tonight. I will be watching the news however. Channel 4 is usually pretty good about being fair.
Sorry, "Loga" should read "Logan". But the way my morning has been, I might as well be from "Loga".
There are mornings like that...If this was Thursday, or even yesterday, I would have been going, too.
But if anyone gets good pics, I can put some up on my blog to get some of the word out.
bttt
"anti-war" = pro-Al Qaeda
The anti-war anti-troops anti-Americans who whine so constantly on behalf of our enemies are verrrrrry upset at the use of tax dollars for anything other than the advance of socialism and the firmer establishment of the domestic nanny state.
The Americong have every right to freedom of speech although most of them, unlike our soldiers, have done absolutely nothing to deserve any freedoms whatsoever. The Americong richly deserve our regularly expressed contempt.
What a shame Mother@#$#$ Sheehan won't be able to attend. I hear she's going to be tied up for a few days...
Good luck on the FReep : )
