[SH Bay Area] Body-in-trunk suspect got lots of counseling

'Doing satisfactorily' after 6 months of weekly sessions.

The El Sobrante man charged with murdering a woman he had repeatedly terrorized attended a two-hour counseling session for domestic violence offenders just days before the slaying, authorities said Tuesday.

Scott McAlpin, 24, is charged with murdering 22-year-old Anastasia Melnitchenko of San Francisco, whose body was found in his car trunk Sunday by U.S. Park Police in the Marin Headlands.

McAlpin was on probation stemming from eight felony convictions in two separate cases for stalking, threatening and attacking Melnitchenko on several occasions from 2001 to 2004. Part of his sentence in the most recent case was that he attend a yearlong domestic violence prevention program.

He was fulfilling that obligation Oct. 19, two days before Melnitchenko disappeared, when he attended a weekly session of a program in Richmond run by Priority Male Center for Positive Peaceful Living.

The center's director, Deborah Burkes, said Tuesday that McAlpin had been participating in the weekly sessions for six months and "was doing satisfactorily.''

I'm sure that this is just a minor setback in his therapy, and a good counselor will be able to help him work though it.

Yeah, just a glitch in his meds.

What a tragedy. That woman should have been armed. The police aren't there to save your life. They are there to collect evidence from your corpse or from your wife/daughters violated body to piece a history together and try to find determine who did it. They are historians, not crime preventers.

The center's director, Deborah Burkes, said Tuesday that McAlpin had been participating in the weekly sessions for six months and "was doing satisfactorily.''

I know all I need to about this person and her organization after reading this remark, under the circumstances.

Reality trumps perception every time. I am addicted to, and live my life religiously on the premise that reality trumps. Every time.

They are historians, not crime preventers protectors.

There. I fixed it.
If life were logical, all those police cars with "To Serve and Protect" painted on the side would successfully be sued for false advertising.

Because of the judges involved who should all be charged with murder.

This is just another excellent example of how liberalism is the best way of life. If they would have just given that poor killer a little more time for rehabilitation, none of this would have happened. Obviously this is a failing of the established system, otherwise this poor guy would have realized the error of his ways and changed.

This proves that we must increase funding for rehab programs to help these poor people who kill and stalk. We need more judges on the bench who will release these poor victims sooner.

Oh, so you say, what about the stalked and killed people? Well they were inviting it anyways. Who cares about the family of the killed girl... sheesh that's so "conservative."

(I hope I don't need to add the /sarc tag, as it is hopefully obvious!)

"... Beverly Upton, executive director of the San Francisco Domestic Violence Consortium, said her organization will draft a letter to the court's presiding judge asking that judges undergo specialized domestic violence training."

Because specialized domestic violence training worked so well before, didn't it?

Thank God for sending letters. Why, I think I will send one right now!

This makes me ill. I agree, this woman should have been armed and trained to defend herself, because its obvious the system was not going to protect her. You notice all the counseling and programs, not one was aimed at helping this woman defend herself.

Do you suppose the judge learned anything?

Don't forget to vote in November to ban firearms in San Francisco. We can NEVER allow a woman to defend herself against a stalker! We feel it is better for a woman to be stalked and killed rather than be allowed to defend herself with a firearm! Join us!!

Counseling -- they talked about his FEELINGS, about how mean his parents and teachers and police were, about how it was all their fault. And if he could just get in touch with his repressed FEELINGS, he would FEEL better. Well, he did.

Moral code v feelings, which do you want your society based on?

That is part of the liberal upside down world. The perp is the victim and needs help. That is, unless the victim is a minority. Then they are victims just by your existence.
