2,000: A Bogus Number, A Bitter Cause

The anti-war Left couldn't wait for the death of the 2,000th soldier in Iraq. Peace activists have been gearing up for protests, vigils, and other events this week to mark the completely bogus milestone. Why 2,000? Was the 2nd or 555th or 1,678th death not as worth mourning as any other death with nice round numbers?

Cindy Sheehan barely contained her macabre lust for the spotlight in preparation for the artificially constructed, media-hyped occasion. "I'm going to go to Washington, D.C., and I'm going to give a speech at the White House, and after I do, I'm going to tie myself to the fence and refuse to leave until they agree to bring our troops home," Sheehan told a reporter last week as the death count neared her lottery number pick.

The number 2,000 is far too low:

It does not take into account the 3,000+ victims of the War on Terror who died on 9/11.

What if, by some miracle, there was no 2000th death? A month/year/etc of 1999 deaths would be the saddest for DUmmies everywhere because they made plans and protests around the 2000. They were banking on that death and it just makes me so sick.

In the meantime, the US keeps taking the war to the enemy, and clearing up the filth where ever they find it.

Every death should be mourned. It took over 2 1/2 years for Iraq to reach 2,000 deaths On 9-11 we reached that mournful milestone in mere seconds.

The basis of the left dancing on 2,000 graves is both ghoulish and dishonest. We would still be British subjects if their kind of blindness and cowardice had held majority support at the time of the American Revolution.

Some more perspective....on average just over 150 thousand people die each day throughout the world....and just over 300 thousand are born.

Of the 2,000, I've known only one; my son. Because of the 30 or so Mothers and Fathers of the fallen that I have become acquainted with, I know a few things. They cared about this country and the freedom of people who have never known it. They felt the calling of duty and they went without hesitation. They were not fools, though they may have misjudged the danger to themselves. They are to be honored, not used for political gain.

As with some of the previously stated WWII death totals, the media finds a greater shock-value to elevate the numbers by including deaths from illness, car accidents, death while on leave, and miscellaneous fatal (non-combat) incidents. Gives the "peace" crowd something to aim for.
