Senator Slams Pro-Life Groups Criticizing American Girl on Abortion

Omaha, NE (LifeNews.com) -- A pro-abortion U.S. senator is slamming pro-life groups who have raised concerns about the American Girl doll company's partnership with a girl's group that backs abortion. Pro-life organizations have threatened a national boycott if the company doesn't pull out from its partnership with Girl's Inc.

Sen. Barak Obama, an Illinois Democrat, called the criticism and possible boycott and overreaction.

“It's just silly,” said Obama. “This is a classic example of overreaction and a lack of proportion.”

"An organization like this plays a vital part in making certain we are opening up our windows and letting our girls look upon the horizon and see which path they want to follow,” he said.

Obama's comments came during a speak to the Omaha, Nebraska chapter of Girls Inc., a group that helps girls with self-esteem and school-related issues but also supports abortion and the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized it.

Earlier, the American Family Association called on pro-life advocates to write to American Girl to ask them to end their association with the group and to stop selling their "I Can" bracelets. The Pro-Life Action League has threatened to announce a boycott if the association doesn't end by November 1.

Randy Sharp, director of special projects for the AFA, told the Associated Press his group won't back down and added that Obama is entitled to his opinion.

But do they support abortion? (And is that the path we want our girls to follow when they look through those open windows at the horizon?)

Somebody should ask Barak about the millions of girls that never get to "look upon the horizon" because they are slaughtered inside the womb.

You nailed it. What a pompous ass Terkel is. Do you have a good story about him? He was so obnoxious when he gave a lecture at the U of C.

***I wonder what he thought of Freedom Fries?***

Nothing.
Reason; He wasn't in DC then.

At the time of 'Freedom Fries' (March, 2003), he was a 3rd rate back bench jr nobody democrat in the IL General Assembly representing a 6th rate crime ridden district from Chicago. When he won the IL Rat primary shock waves went through the "The Machine". His win over the parties pick [Dan Hynes(?)] was a 110% unexpected fluke.

I listened to him in interview on "Fresh Air" (BING-BING-BING! Lefty alert!) and he used all the Lib code words, indicating that nobody could possibly do anything on their own, "it takes a village". He's an old-school, Pete Seeger, IWW-Wobblie-style Lefty!

Funny, I just tossed an American Girl catalog in the recycle pile. Now I've learned I have an even better reason not to buy my daughters' a $100+ baby doll.

The Christmas catalog for American Girl came to our house yesterday. I looked through it while standing in the rain yesterday. It had the bracelet advertisement. I have to say it was the prettiest doll catalog I've ever seen. It was larger than usual, and it was loaded with beautiful photographs. Hubby walked outside to greet me, and he saw what it was and took it with the rest of the junk mail straight to the dumpster outside. Such a shame.

At least some girls will have good self esteem before their mentors encourage them to abort their offspring so their lives aren't screwed up.

American Girl Plays Down Ties to Pro-Abortion Group After Criticism

New York, NY (LifeNews.com) -- American Girl, the makers of a popular line of children's dolls, has lowered the profile of its partnership with a pro-abortion group following national criticism. A pro-life organization that has helped lead opposition says the company is removing some of its links to Girls Inc., a group that helps girls with self-esteem and scholastic issues but also backs abortion.

"American Girl, maker of American Girl Dolls, must be receiving enough calls and emails to cause them considerable consternation," says Ann Scheidler, director of the Pro-Life Action League. Scheidler says American Girl is already "de-emphasizing" the "I Can" bracelets they're selling in conjunction with Girls Inc.

While official statements from the doll manufacturer say they're not going to discontinue the project, which has proceeds from the sale of the bracelets go to the pro-abortion group, Scheidler says it appears they're trying to play down its importance. Meanwhile, Scheidler adds that her group will call for a national boycott if American Girl doesn't officially end the partnership. Read the complete story.

Diago has a thread on that from, yesterday?

I'm really sad about this. My daughter had a nice collection.

I'm not adding to it anymore.

I've opted out of their mailing, I've faxed them a number of threads to see our dismay and I've forwarded all articles to my email list.

I am so disgusted with this association by American Girl dolls. My girls have four. It opened up a world of history at the time the dolls "lived" in and made them more curious about that period of history. Such a good thing in it's original concept but linking themselves with this group is beyond the pale. A doll is just another tool of the predators nowadays. That's the way I see it now.

All that said - for those of you who already have the dolls - EBay has tons of clothes, etc. for them cheaper and much better made than the American Girl products.

"American" Girls dolls are made by Otz in Germany, and the clothes and accessories are made in Taiwan. Has been so since Pleasant Rowland started the company, and still is today. Only the stories and the customers are American.
