"I spent the next 8 days drinking mint tea and meeting with dozens of officials"

If I were Fitz, I'd subpoena Wilson and ask him, under oath, to identify those "dozens of officials." I bet he interviewed fewer than 10 people, maybe fewer than 5. You could not possibly do "dozens" of bona fide intelligence interviews in 8 days, IMHO.

Paying attention to the news is now a criminal offense?

It is if you're a Republican.

Also, is it a crime if people with top secret clearances talk to one another about top secret stuff?

I question how many of these "dozens" of "officials" Wilson actually talked to, and at what length. The whole idea of the trip was lame-brained; what government official in Niger is going to admit, to a man such as Wilson with no offical standing, and with no compelling reason to do so, that his country was engaged in illegal uranium transactions? How could anyone possibly think that Wilson could get any legitimate information by making this trip? The whole trip was a charade, either to benefit Wilson's personal business interests on other matters, or to embarrass the Bush administration by providing a superficial and shallow debunking of the yellow-cake story. .

Did Wilson go to Niger so that he could understand how uranium trade works and which officials would be involved? Information like that could prove useful is one was to develop forged documents. Just a thought.

It would be very interesting to know when the documents were forged. They may have been available to Wilson and Plame before she suggested he go to Niger. Someone else has posted here that Wilson's first wife is a French connection. This is a very tangled web.

Thanks for the timeline.

This was great. You get a gold star sticker. What I want to know is who exactly Wilson saw and spoke to when he was in Niger. And what is the French Connection?

Also interesting is the fact that in November of 2002, Soros was calm, cool, and collected about getting off on insider trading charges in France.

November 9 2002

George Soros, the financier who made his fortune playing chicken with governments on the world's financial markets, found himself on the receiving end of a state attack on Thursday when he went on trial in Paris for insider trading.

Prosecutors allege he took advantage of inside information in 1988 to make £7 million buying and selling in the French bank Societe Generale.

As the case was laid out against him, Soros stretched his legs, adjusted his earpiece and smoothed his tie, with no hint of first-day nerves. At the end of the opening session, he said: "I am confident I will be acquitted.

"I have been implicated by accident. I learned a lot about Societe Generale today that I never knew before."

I believe he was convicted, but given a slap on the wrist fine. Why? It took 10 yrs. to bring this to trial. What arrangements were made with Chirac? And what arrangements did Chirac possibly make with Wilson?

The whole idea of the trip was lame-brained; what government official in Niger is going to admit, to a man such as Wilson with no offical standing, and with no compelling reason to do so, that his country was engaged in illegal uranium transactions?

And don't forget that the then-Ambassador to Niger Owens-Kirkpatrick forbade Wilson from speaking with then-current officials in the Niger government lest he interfere in the State Department's own on-going investigation (she knew him better than most and realized he would just muck things up). He only spoke to past government officials who had no current information.

Now the left (who I think inserted the "documents" into the international intelligence stream) is going to have its revenge.

What we have to keep out there in the public realm are these facts.

The US and British intelligence stream on this issue begins long before these documents are entered into the stream. The US and British intelligence stream and their intelligence consensus did not rely on, or depend soley on those documents.

The documents only came into the game (October 9, 2002) when someone (the left) needed something to refute what the Brits and the US said.

That is going to be missed in the media, and Blair and Bush will only have themselves to blame if they do not make it clear that those documents never made the start, the base or the preponderance of evidence on the issue.

The "forged documents" continue to serve the agenda of those who created them; someone somewhere in the world who alligned with Interantional ANSWER here in the US.

The problem with the people he says he interviewed is that none of them had any reason or incentive to tell Wilson if the claims were true.

They all would have been or would be in compromising positions if the claims were true, because they would have been involved in the transactions themselves, in the past or at the time Wilson talked to them.

Africa, in spite of its riches and due to corruption is a continent filled with corrupt governments and many underpaid and corruptible officials. For Wilson to take their answers at face value shows either he is really stupid, or he did it just for show, not actually believing them himself.

If they were anyone's "operatives" my guess would be that it included more than just the French and the Democrats.

What we all want to know is

why the entire affair was left by Tenet and McLaughlin to be handled without their involvemen;

why no one, even in Valerie Plame's group, the Counterproliferation Division, questioned the legitimacy and the worth of sending Wilson as opposed to someone experienced in actually collecting and verifying covert intelligence.

Who believed that Wilson's old friends in Niger would tell him the truth if they were involved??

What Joe Wilson Doesn't Say About Africa

and about France and about his connections with French diplomats or Saudi-middle east business interests, or African business interests, or business interest that got Iraqi oil for food money, or other nefarious associations of his, including his long-time and dedicated political support to prominent Democrats.

What caught my eye:

"In late February 2002, I arrived in Niger"....where "I had been a diplomat in the mid 70's".

So he had all these connections but hadn't been there in 30 years? How old is Joe?

I agree. Rove was the optimum target to get this big roadblock out of Hillary's path for a 2008 run. And which stupid jerk is willing to be VP under her? Wesley Clark or Don Sutherland?
