Sinking the Miers nomination before we confirm another O'Connor.

It may, but these uber-conservatives have now sunk to attacking Miers personally, and a national television ad campaign is just downright mean.

NRO, Coulter, Frum, and crew better enjoy their 15 minutes. Their attempt to destroy a human being is despicable.

This isn’t about sinking the nomination—Bush knows how they feel and he isn’t going to budge. Even if he wanted to he can’t now, because he’d be accused of being ruled by an ultra conservative clique.
What this is about is certain people wanting to prove how superior their principles are. I’m with you. It’s despicable.

They are attempting to derail a nomination, not destroy a human being. I'm not sure I agree with them but let's not overstate their actions.

Destroy a human being? Since when did opposing someone sitting on the Supreme Court amount to destroying them. Please. Your hyperbole does nothing but discredit your opinions.

Nobody has an inalienable right to sit on the Supreme Court. This was a lousy nomination. She is not qualified for the job, and she shows many signs of being a liberal. I know that doesn't bother you, because you are a liberal too. But it bothers us.

We have no desire to destroy Harriet Miers. We never even heard of her until Bush tried to pull a fast one on us. She is welcome to return to her Texas law firm and continue getting ahead in the world. She is not welcome to sit on the court and help her fellow liberals destroy our country.

Other than commenting on the relative lack of qualifications and record to be the type of Justice Bush promised, what constitutes an attempt at personal destruction?

Reminds me of; after trashing Stalin on his death bed, Beria was the first to kiss Stalin's hand when Stalin temporarily awoke. We'll see the depths of their courage

"Their attempt to destroy a human being is despicable."

Your rhetoric is getting very outlandish. They are of course not trying to destroy Ms. Miers, simply prevent a bad nomination. Why not be honest?

The TV ad is not "mean". It just quotes Bork and Limbaugh criticizing the nomination. It is not a personal attack on Miers.

Their attempt to destroy a human being is despicable.

If the people you call the "uberconservatives" set out to destroy someone, they could do a hell of a lot better than this.

Do you think that Miers expected to be nominated, or even thought that she deserved to be nominated? She knows perfectly well how unlikely a candidate she is. It cannot possibly "destroy" her to hear others point out her lack of qualifications for the job. She knows perfectly well that she lacks the usual qualifications.

I can't imagine a comercial that could be done in good taste that I would support. This is tacky and sad. We are eating our own.
