I didn't realize there WAS deer hunting that close to downtown LA. I usually don't hunt close to metro areas, but I wonder, what is the closest hunting area you know of to a major city?

Bowhunting in Westchester County just north of NY City.

Bowhunting and special shotgun season in Suffolk County on Long Island east of NY City.

How long do they have to wait for the herds of illegals to move on through?

I believe the cook county (Chicago) forest preserve was allowing deer hunting(bow) to control the population. Some of this land is probably a few steps away from a starbucks.

It is only a "forbidden" zone if you get caught.

I know guys who jack everything they can eat wherever they may be, in Massachusetts suburbs no less.

A subsonic round and a plastic pop bottle can get you a lot of venison meatballs.

Here in Minnesota, there are so many darned deer that lots of cities in the metro area have bowhunting in the city parks. Permit only, of course, and just a few hunters allowed.

A nice buck wandered through my backyard a couple of days ago, and I live in St. Paul, itself.

For some reason, most folks here don't have fences around their yards, so the wildlife just passes through the yards.

One of them sorry Bambi looking pieces of crap almost got me the other night on the motorcycle, I had a handful of front brake the front wheel was locked up and I just squeeked through, I hope they kill every stinking one of them in the state. All they do is eat, crap and commit suicide by jumping out in front of cars.

You can hunt from less than 20 miles from Manhattan in the NW most area of Bergen County NJ and East most Passaic county..

Six-day Firearm (6 days): Dec. 5 – 10, 2005 Season bag limit is two
antlered deer; however, if hunter harvests two antlered deer, he/she
forfeits the opportunity to harvest an antlered deer during the

Permit Shotgun Season. Only one buck may be taken at a time.
Permit Shotgun Season (1 day): Dec. 14, 2005 Season bag limit is
one deer – which MUST be antlerless if two antlered deer were
harvested during the Six-Day Firearm Season (see Note above).
Hunters may purchase only one special season shotgun permit per
zone.

I don't know if it would be considered 'major', but you can hunt along the Savannah River in Augusta, Ga. There are a number of hunt clubs on old agricultural land and hunters are allowed on and around the levee. It's not populated by houses, there are a few industries around but downtown is only a 5 minute or less drive away.
