Civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks has died, Local 4 has learned.
Parks, 92, reportedly died around 7 p.m. Monday at St. John Hospital on Detroit's east side.
Parks' refusal to give up her bus seat to a white man in Montgomery, Ala., in 1955 landed her in jail and sparked a bus boycott that is considered the start of the modern civil rights movement. The bus is on display at the Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn.
Parks, was born on Feb. 4, 1913, in Tuskegee, Ala. She lived in Detroit.
Which has nothing to do with whether Rosa Parks' actions on that bus were good or not.
I am so sick and tired of people using Rosa Parks, MLK and everyone else, and suggesting they were communists in order to negate any of the good things they did.
Would you have rather Ms. Parks gone ahead and gotten up out of that seat? Would you rather Dr. King not have led the largely peaceful Montgomery boycott? After all, they could have easily bowed their heads, said "yassuh, boss," and allowed things to continue as they were.
Are you saying you would prefer that I and others that look like me have stayed in our place "where we belonged?"
My God. Things aren't perfect. This isn't a perfect world.
But here is a woman who unwittingly helped millions of people who look like me simply by refusing to vacate her seat.
Yet all I hear from some quarters is how her politics were communistic. As if that negated her actions. As if her actions on that bus were anti-American.
I get embarrassed every time posts like that show up.
Is there any wonder that FR gets painted as a lounging place for lunatics?

Cheap amusement. During the electrical blackout a few years ago, the National Guard shipped in tankers of water. Kwame was televised clapping in the street and yelling "the water buffaloes be cumin".
I understand that they had adjoining properties in Fort Myers, FL, for winter use.
I can't tell you how many times the Mafia has done stuff to that effect, which is why so many folks who should know better, love them.
The mob at times is known to do something good, which buys them goodwill for when they committ horrible inhuman crimes.
It even works to intimidate witnesses and victims from testifying.
Based on the letters she wrote to Watts and her conversations with him, its pretty clear she dumped all the marxist stuff behind her.
Its also notable or damning, that she avoided endorsing political canidates over the years or ever even once defending Conyers whom she once worked for.
She did also do a pretty good job of avoiding politics in general through the years.
I think she was her own woman, and God Bless her for that.

I'm glad that you commented on this. As a black woman who was born in the mid 1960's, I've heard nothing but the story of a tired seamstress who refused to give up her seat. Nothing was said about her being an officer of the NAACP or about other women coming forward and being passed over because they weren't squeaky clean. After learning about her involvement with the NAACP, I've had mixed feelings about what she did. I wish that her story had been presented with honesty.
Most civil rights heroes don't. In fact, quite the opposite, in some instances. Consider Dr. Martin Luther King and Malcom X.
Both died as a result of their "celebrity", for lack of a better word. :-/
It's only fitting that someone with Ms. Parks' spark and "spunk" possesses such longevity and live to see age 92. May she rest well.

I never knew that Parks was sitting in the "black" section of the bus and wouldn't get up. I always thought it was the "white" section ...
It seems the whole bus was a "white" bus unless not enough white residents were riding. They would then be guaranteed all the seats up front ... very intersting details of it through the following boycotts.
I guess I have lost count.

BTW-if you are really worried about some sort of white nationalists infiltrating FR- you could either tell your Clown Posse buddies to cut it out- or you could ignore them and stop feeding them. Either way "they" would go away.
