Civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks has died, Local 4 has learned.

Parks, 92, reportedly died around 7 p.m. Monday at St. John Hospital on Detroit's east side.

Parks' refusal to give up her bus seat to a white man in Montgomery, Ala., in 1955 landed her in jail and sparked a bus boycott that is considered the start of the modern civil rights movement. The bus is on display at the Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn.

Parks, was born on Feb. 4, 1913, in Tuskegee, Ala. She lived in Detroit.

I could give a damn myself. How many people who called themselves christians and 'true Americans' didn't do anything and thought 'that's how things are supposed to be'.

Another one bites the dust?

Perhaps his musical offering was autobiographical...

A TRUE civil rights leader has passed away.

Hopefully, reminders of who Rosa Parks was and what she means to American history will stuff a sock down the throats of people who speak of Parks and Cindy Sheehan in the same breath.

This was from a different era - back when the NAACP wasn't a bunch of race-baiting numbskulls....

Amen, brother. I didn't agree with Frank Zappa about a lot, but he was spot on in the song "Rhymin' Man" about everybody's favorite shakedown artist:

They say when Dr. King got shot,
Jesse hatched an evil plot,
Dipped his hands in the Doctor's blood
and rubbed his shirt like playing with mud
Looked round for all the press, and said
'Check me out, my name is Jess'

I second that.

Mrs. Parks was a gracious heroine.

Rosa Parks fought for freedom & won.

May she rest in the Lord's arms.

I seem to remember she was ill, perhaps diagnosed with Alzheimer's. And there was some lawsuit again (I think?) a music group for misuse of her name or some such.

Of all the video available with her, my local media all picked video of her and Bill Clinton. No bias there.

I'm tired of being told "the nation mourns" (insert a liberal icon) the second it is announced. That's ridiculous. To much of the nation she was a notable character known only in a text book.

She lead a long life and left a mark on her nation's history. What else need be said? Many aren't as fortunate.

I'm sure she outlived everyone on that bus who didn't have the decency to let a woman sit where she wanted.

"... I abhore all things KKK then and particularly now with it's alliance with Nazism but like the NAACP - some things get taken over by self-serving lower case trash and used for self-promotion."

Yeah, you're probably right -- not everything the KKK did was bad. I read somewhere they used to help organize bake sales too, before the really bad Klansmen took over :)

She urged J.C. Watts not to retire from Congress, so I don't think she was a liberal.

Watts read a letter he received from Ms. Parks, in which she wrote: "I am glad I stayed in my seat on a Montgomery, Alabama bus, Dec. 1, 1955.... I would also like you to keep your seat."

Somethings wrong here!! I've read the first hundred or so responses and the vast majority of them are praising this women!!

I thought this site was all about racism, hatred, bogotry, intolerance and so on . . . . [/sarcasm - I hope that wasn't needed!!!]

RIP Rosa, as another freeper has already noted, a front row seat on the bus to heaven has you name permanently reserved for you.
