The campaign to urge the withdrawal of Harriet Miers has moved to the next level. Two new groups have stepped forward: WithdrawMiers.org (http://www.withdrawmiers.org/) is a consortium of social conservative groups that will encourage members to write directly to their representatives in Congress.
Some friends of mine and I meanwhile have organized Americans for Better Justice (http://www.betterjustice.com/default.php?page_id=1) which has raised money for a national television and radio advertising campaign to urge the withdrawal of the nomination of Harriet Miers. You will be able to see our spots very shortly on the site. They will be airing this week on "Special Report with Brit Hume," "Fox and Friends," the Rush Limbaugh program, the Laura Ingraham program, among other places.
[snip]
There is a very great deal at stake. The seat to which the president has nominated Harriet Miers has been the court's swing seat on a range of issues from same-sex marriage to racial gerrymandering, from religious liberty to federalism. It is too important to be shrugged off - and it is reckless to suggest (as some of my email correspondents are suggesting) that this is a job that can be done by pretty much anybody with a tablespoon of common sense. On the contrary, reversing 4 decades of bad jurisprudence will take very uncommon levels of courage, ability, integrity, and independence. Conservatives have worked too hard for too long to settle for anything less than our very best on the Supreme Court. Please join me and BetterJustice.com in pressing the president to reconsider and do better.
"You likely think that when you go to a football game and you see a team in a huddle, that they're talking about how smart you are"
Not at all, I prefer to think they're talking about what a smart ass you are, and I should think I'm right most of the time.
I noticed you dodged that "uber" business. I don't blame you.
There would be no conservative movement in America today without the hard work of folks like Weyrich and Schlafly. That movement reached ascendancy because of people like Limbaugh. I guess the pro-Miers crowd wants to jettison these "dinosaurs" in order to get a cipher on the court, simply because she was nominated by W. And they accuse us of being elitists.
God doesn't enter into this equation. Only whether I believe Bush and Miers.
I was calling the pro-Miers types royalists with their THE EMPEROR HAS COMMANDED AND WE HIS LOYAL SUBJECTS MUST SILENTLY OBEY arguments.
"The influence of quislings like Will, Kristol, and Frum is dying, too."
Yeah, and quislings like Limbaugh, Ingraham, Weyrich, Krauthammer, Noonan, Schlafly, and Bork! Those people haven't done a DAMN thing for conservatism. (They're probably undercover marxists!)"
Right you are my good man. I wonder just where the current crop of BushBots will turn in the future for their posts of conservative thought.
I agree with your entire comment, and disagree with all the others who are trying to argue with you.
Many of those who voted for Bush expected better--someone with a proven track record.
Here, Bush tells us he searched the entire universe of candidates for this job and, guess what, the best of all was just an office or two down the hall.
I am one of those.
You said you believed them because you consider them Christian. You said you are willing to trust their word blindly so for you God most definitely does enter into the equation.
David was a righteous man of God and ancestor of the Messiah but if I was Uriah the Hittite I would have thought twice about being in that front line. Christian most definitely does NOT mean infallible.
From Federalist #76...
Those who have themselves reflected upon the subject, or who have attended to the observations made in other parts of these papers, in relation to the appointment of the President, will, I presume, agree to the position, that there would always be great probability of having the place supplied by a man of abilities, at least respectable. Premising this, I proceed to lay it down as a rule, that one man of discernment is better fitted to analyze and estimate the peculiar qualities adapted to particular offices, than a body of men of equal or perhaps even of superior discernment.
I might be willing to take that Christian's word that she'll be an originalist, if I had any confidence she could define the term. She probably thinks an originalist is someone who knows how to apply the proportional representation rule of the equal protection clause. You know, that's the rule that requires gender and race based set asides, forces law firms to pool clients' money so the interest payments can be used to fund cases pushing for homosexual adoption, and lowers standards on fire departments to favor women. Al Hamilton's got two thumbs up for her!
Your reply is worth a repeat:

Quislings = people like hugh hewitt.
Will, kristol, Frum - the people NOT buying everything the white house says - would not be defined as 'quislings'.
Are you prepared to apply Federalist #76 to Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton ?
Wrong. I said it was more likely they were telling the truth because they were persons of faith. Not that I believe them because they're christian.
Unappeaseables.
"My-way-or-the-highway".
As I just told you, I no longer care about Miers. But I'm going to observe you and those in your camp if Miers goes down. You'll think you've got muscle, and it will be interesting to see how and where you throw your weight around in an effort to bring Bush to heel.
"I proceed to lay it down as a rule, that one man of discernment is better fitted to analyze and estimate the peculiar qualities adapted to particular offices, than a body of men of equal or perhaps even of superior discernment."
So, you're suggesting Bush made this pick all by himself, without even help from Andy Card. Well, I'll be.
Frum is an American citizen now. I guess you didn't catch that earlier in this thread...
The Senate already did. Remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg? 97-3.
Yeah I'm willing to follow the original intent of the Constitution to place the power in one man, with only the Senate as a check. If you can get R Senators to vote against her, more power to you. I don't think you can.
Bush had the final decision...you're dissembling.
Yeah, you don't like her politics. Thank you Chucky Schumer.
