Regular readers of these threads know I have often skewered Fox & Friends Weekend co-host Julian Phillips for his liberalism, inanity and the general sense of unease he projects.
I believe I've even observed that he "doesn't feel comfortable in his own skin."
This morning's show gave evidence that such might be quite literally true.
There was a running joke among the co-hosts this morning, with news reader Alyson Camerota joining in, over the fact that Julian and co-host Adam Housley were wearing identical suits.
At the end of one such light-hearted moment, Julian suddenly exclaimed: "ebony & ivory," referring to the fact that he's black and Housley is white.
I was jarred by the comment. It seemed to come entirely out of left field. No one had mentioned their race and it was entirely extraneous to the matter at hand. The 'same suit' shtick would have been the same if it had pertained to Housley and Mike Jerrick.
So why did Phillips inject race? I think it reflects the fact that it's probably difficult for white Americans to apreciate just how much race 'colors' everything for black Americans, how it lays just beneath the surface in many unexpected and seemingly unrelated ways.
I actually found myself feeling sorry for Phillips.
Your thoughts? Anyone else see the segment and found his comment to be an odd non sequitur?

Linda Vester had her baby!
We all love to stay in our comfort zone. I always laugh when integration is attempted to be forced whether it's race or religion or whatever. Let's face it, we like to be where we are comfortable. If I as a whitey like to attend black meetings fine. I would go, but don't MAKE me do it just to celebrate integration.
And as far as supposed "racist" remarks go, where is it written in the Constitution that we have to like everybody...or at least pretend to do so. In my opinion, pretense of that nature is tantamount to lying to and/or about a person or group of people, and there is little that is more disrespectful than dishonesty and insincerity in dealing with others.
I agree, and you are saying what Ward Connorly explained (if I spelled his name right).
It certainly knows it's way to The Promised Land...
Maybe that's what they want you to think. Balanced reporting is bs. Read the marketing of evil. It's all about destroying America as a free country and Fox is contributing to it. Someday these idiots will fall and it can't be soon enough for me.
I saw it ... no offense ... but you may be either reading into this way too much or a little too sensitive yourself. n/o
President Condi would be a big step in the right direction...
Julian is unwatchable period.
I don't know where Julian stands on many issues, but I suspect that he is liberal on some. But there is one area where he is conservative, and that is on abortion. I sent him an email mentioning abortion once, and he responded by telling me that because he is a born again Christian, he is opposed to abortion and that those who are pro-choice need our prayers.
"That's one smart snake. :=) "

I hope E.D. isn't pregnant.... again.. : )
Fair enough.
I always get turned off when someone says something about gays and then feels the immediate need to "clarify" or apologize for their remarks. Foxcaster Chris Knowles got an email from a viewer who was a guy, and this viewer said that he liked Knowles in a "non-gay" way. Knowles responds by saying "I'm glad he made the clarification about it being in a "non-gay" way. Adam Housley (co-host) then says "not that there's anything wrong with that", and Knowles chimes in with "no, not at all". Are they afraid of getting sued by some homosexual activist group or something? I mean, why come out and say you're glad the viewer doesn't have some sort of gay crush on you, only to finish with "not that there's anything wrong with that". Why act like you're disgusted and then take it back?
Linda Vester is on a 1 year maternity leave. She just gave birth to a little boy the other day, and I think that she wants to spend some time with her husband and other young child.
Yet if there was a White Caucus, or a White Republican Group wouldn't that be considered racist?
To some, obviously. So, what's new about that? I can't vote in the Repubican Womens forum either. Nor the Young Republicans group.
I grew up in a very poor area, and came from a poor family. Throughout my teenage years the cops were very oppressive stopping us for no good reason and administrating "field justice" to me and my neighbors. Because I am white I couldn't blame the police for being racist. They were just aholes because they knew they could get away with it. I got over it when I 1)Got an education 2)Moved away from that area and 3) Got a job. Success s a great equalizer. My advice is to "Get over it!" You don't have to forget about the bad things in life but you should use them to get stronger.
Is Chris Knowles married to Kirin Chetry? I seem to remember someone on F&F mentioning it.
Yes, they've been married for 5 years and are expecting a baby in February.
