Russia's population has shrunk by more than half a million people this year...
Russia's population the largest in Europe has been declining steadily since the 1991 breakup of the Soviet Union, with increased poverty, alcoholism, emigration and degradation of the health care system blamed for reducing birth rates and life expectancy.
Demographers predicted that Russia's population will fall to 100 million by 2050, and could even drop to 80 million.

Yep, the proponents of the religion of peace, will rush into mother russia like fire ants. Sooner or later, some country will adhere to my tag line. It can't happen soon enough.
"70 per cent of pregnancies are aborted" was the actual quote from Steyn.
I'm responsible for reducing the number there by two last year.
It's an open question whether the Mahometan filth will gain control of France's nukes first, or Russia's.

I'm not so sure. It seems to be nearly universally true that when countries get to a critical level of freedom/self determination and affluence, reproductive rates drop precipitously. That will probably happen to China as well. They are still going through the urbanization of their population that happened in the West during the Industrial Revolution. As we grapple with the demographically driven problems of Social Security (sic) et al, we can take solace in the fact that Asia is facing even starker changes in reproductive related demographics. For example, Japan. It reminds me of the dynamics of a Tsunami wave. As it moves into shallower water and slows down, the amplitude builds and you have a massive wave breaking over the shore. That is what we have today in advanced industrial and post-industrial societies, a demographic wave breaking over our societies. I don't see any easy way out of the problem, when women have enough self determination, they massively choose to depress their reproduction in order to more fully participate in society in ways that they could not in the past. The aggregate result of all the individual reproductive decisions is the predictable demographic changes we are seeing. The cultural and economic forces that once kept them "barefoot and pregnant" are no longer functioning. Unrestrained growth in human population is unsustainable, long term, but the abrupt slowdown also creates huge problems that risk destabilizing the nation-state as we know it. If a society chooses to constrain its population growth it better have the means and the will to constrain the population growth of other, competing, societies. The fact that our society is in competition with other societies is an incomprehensible notion for most of our electorate.
Good news for momma earth. No more evil humans polluting her Gaianess. Woo hoo. I bet people are cheering in Oregon.
Sad, children are the future. Not always easy to deal with, but they are our future.
True...The situation in China is altered by the program of aborting female babies. Seems like the last I knew they had had about a 60 million male surplus.
One would think this small a population could benefit tremendously from all their oil wealth and natural resources.... a more progressive government could turn Russia into a shining star, unfortunatly, under Putin, just the opposite... Russian brides are very popular here in the US.... maybe Vincente Fox could send his excess population to Russia to work.
so are all those other feminazis.
Isn't that akin to saying a huge chunk of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas belong to Mexico?
Actually, China is doing a pretty good job of striping the Siberian Forests to keep up with their own population growth.

GOOD FOR YOU! I am happy for you!!! Are you happy for you?
Many, many observers have noted over the last five decades that the visible infrastructure simply did not match the population claims ~ whether nationally, or locally.
With greater transparancy in their systems, the Russians will need to get their official population count down to the reality which is probably nearer 100 million than not.
Except for the Arctic regions, and Siberia, much of today's "Mother Russia" was in Moslem hands just 250 years ago. All of Kazan was Moslem for example.
I have met one or two beautiful Russian brides. I don't think they miss the poverty and Stone Age standard of living.
