FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A judge has ruled that the $250,000 life insurance policy that Scott Peterson had taken out on his wife will go instead to her mother.

Stanislaus County Superior Court Judge Roger Beauchesne said Friday that because Scott Peterson was convicted of killing his pregnant wife, Laci, and the fetus she carried, he is not entitled to collect the benefits of her life insurance policy. Under state law, criminals cannot profit from their crimes. The judge said the money should go to the executor of her estate, which is Laci Peterson's mother, Sharon Rocha.

Scott Peterson was sentenced to death earlier this year for killing his wife and their unborn son, whose bodies were found on the shore of San Francisco Bay months after her December 2002 disappearance.

A $25 million wrongful death lawsuit filed against Scott Peterson by Laci Peterson's family is set for trial in April.

Neither Rocha nor Scott Peterson's attorney could be reached for comment Friday.

Appropriate you posted this Norm. I hope Laci's Mom enjoys some small feeling of "Revenge" that Scott and his disgusting lawyer will get none of this money.

Thankfully, this wasn't tried in Florida in Greer's court.

How true! Ole Scotty would be the hero for treating his wife so lovingly.

My, my......

Does this mean that Scott Peterson's family will have to hock everything they own to pay his Ambulance chasing lawyer?

Or, will the lawyer simply have to "suck it up"?

Too bad, so sad.........not.

I didn't know an insurance company had to pay a murderer. Am I missing something here?

A judge has ruled that the $250,000 life insurance policy that Scott Peterson had taken out on his wife will go instead to her mother.

It is commonly understood in all states that you can't kill someone, get convicted, and then get the insurance money resulting from the deceased's murder.

Scott's family probably needed it though, because his parents hocked a lot of assets to pay Geragos's $1,000,000 lawyer fee, and Geragos was lousy.

I heard that the taxpayers ended up with a substantial part of Geragos' bill. Yes, he sure was a lousy lawyer.

Just wondering why the mother and not both the mother and father of Laci got the insurance money.

A no brainer as far as I am concerned. How the murderer could even be considered is beyond me.

Laci's parents were divorced. She lived with her mom.

Will any of us ever forget her statement about how much she missed her daughter.

"I didn't know an insurance company had to pay a murderer. Am I missing something here?"

They are not paying the murderer they are paying out the insurance policy to Laci's Mom.

"He doesn't have that kind of money, does he?"

You are correct he doesn't now, but if he should write a book or a movie deal All proceeds would go to Laci's family if they win the wrongful death suit.

It is a way to keep him from profiting on her death.

It has nothing to do with Scott being a murderer - as far as the insurance company is concerned. The insurance pays the beneficiary .. regardless of whether they are scum or not. It's up to other to file in court to stop Scott from getting the money .. which Laci's mother did .. and rightfully so. And .. I'm happy to see the judge taking into consideration the LAW which says that a criminal cannot profit from the victim's death.

----I totally agree. Good for the Mom. I know it will not bring Laci or her grandson back, but at least that scum or his family will not be able to profit off it.
