Vitale Suspect Described as 'Goth' Loner
CNN ^ | October 21, 2005

MARTINEZ, California (CNN) -- The teenage suspect in the beating death of a prominent lawyer's wife was described by classmates as a "gothic" loner who followed the occult and dressed in black from the polish on his fingernails to his trench coat.

The young man is being held as a juvenile in the slaying of Pamela Vitale, wife of lawyer and television pundit Daniel Horowitz. Police say he apparently acted alone.

Horowitz found Vitale's body when he returned to a trailer the couple shared while they built a dream estate on a hilltop in affluent Lafayette, east of Oakland.

Authorities said Vitale, 52, was bludgeoned by a strip of crown molding and fought with her killer. (See video about the arrest -- 4:35)

A gothic cross was carved into her back. That symbol may be a key link to the suspect.

"He was just really a gothic kid, and everyone knew who he was just because of his apparel. When you heard the name, you were just like, 'Oh, that kid,' " a classmate told CNN.

"He just definitely stood out in front of anybody in the school," the classmate added. "When he walked by, everybody talked about him -- like, he definitely didn't blend in."

Authorities would not identify the 16-year-old, and CNN is not naming him because of his age. But news outlets in the San Francisco Bay area widely publicized his name after his arrest late Wednesday.

Former classmates told The Associated Press that the teenager drew a pentagram on the ground at school, telling other students he was reading from the book of Satan.

Shazam!

By reading that word, I have activated your DNA. You will now send me $100 of your hard-earned cash to help me establish a new foundation in California for remote DNA activation.

I plan to build a 10,000 sq ft ranch retreat, where I will live in tax-free luxury and where you can rent a room for spititual guidance.

'single mom'
'long distance healer'
'ex stepfather'
'ecological materials'
'pot belly stove'
'goats and chickens'

Not that there's anything wrong with goats and chickens. Nor pot belly stoves.

But add it all up, plus the fact that this is CALIFORNIA, and you get a picture of brain-dead aging hippie parents, ex parents, ex step parents, single moms, all eking out a hippy-dippy communal existence in fastasy-land.

It's this anomie that drives a kid into sick fads, like Goth-ism; or worse, into violent ideologies like neo-naziism or Islamofascism.

If he hadn't committed this murder, this kid might've turned into another John Walker Lindh or Adam Pearlman ("Adam Gadahn") -- another kid who grew up on a "goat farm."

His attorney will claim kids at school picked on him so it's not his fault.

Maybe not this time. He killed the wife of one of those sleazy attornies.

Here's the boy's story: http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/breaking_news/12957543.htm

Thanks, that was an interesting article. This is one weird part of it, "his mother is a long-distance healer who believes that DNA strands can be activated to alleviate disease..."

"There's gotta be a Mom's boyfriend angle in this story."

Or more than one. But at least one live-in with a record. Never fails.

This is not about Goths. Some people are just born bad. Goths, drugs or booze aren't a factor. These people are everywhere, even in churches. Dennis Rader was an upstanding member of the Christian community. He was also the BTK serial killer.
If we attach blame to the Goths, we are also to blame for Dennis Rader.

I was in the emergency room and overheard a doctor telling the parents of a teen who was there for an overdose that is was a lifestyle choice. It pissed me off.

Sounds like lots of things...

Total chaos, lack of structure and boundaries, no sense of true safety and yeah, like you said, a really, REALLY high chance of abuse and molestation.

Kids like this don't just happen, they're created.

Supposedly, the mom is a nice single mom.

The same could be said about a former coworker of mine whose daughter was a "Goth".
IMHO, the mom was "too nice", and the kid was overly protected, pampered and spoiled.
But I'm sure there must've been other, more complicating factors.
