Plame plans to sue White House officials - (gathering storm lies + barf alert)

Joseph Wilson and his wife, Valerie Plame are preparing to file a civil suit against Bush administration officials.

Plame was the covert CIA agent allegedly unmasked by the White House. Now she is preparing to file a civil lawsuit against the Bush administration officials who may have disclosed her identity and scuttled her career, Salon.com reported Thursday.

"There is no question that her privacy has been invaded. She was almost by definition the ultimate private person," said the couple's attorney, Christopher Wolf.

Wolf said the couple would make a final decision on filing a lawsuit after special prosecutor Patick Fitzgerald has completed his investigation, Salon said.

If they do sue, Wilson and Plame could be the first litigants to depose senior White House officials since Paula Jones, an employee of the state of Arkansas, sued President Bill Clinton.

Regardless, of whether a President can be sued civilly or not, the tort of invasion of privacy does not apply in this case because Wilson and Plame were public employees and the conduct was relevant to the public interest. The Bush defense essentially will be that Wilson went to Niger, he got the job b/c of Plame and these facts were revealed to shed light on Wilson who was attempting to discredit the President.

I do think a President should not have immunity from suit for intentional acts.

I could be wrong, but I think someone here brought up the possibility...correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, if the ho does sue, at least we'll find out if she really was a covert operative working for the CIA or just another desk jockey working at Langley.

How is it that having a government job is a "private" thing?

I'm thinking that if this Valerie Plame ever tried to buy a car the dealer or the bank financing the transaction would call her employer and ask if she worked there.

Else, she'd have to pay cash every single time ~ with that $10,000 reportable limit causing it's own problems!

This suit would likely be thrown out of court as soon as it is determined that Valerie Plame suffered no physical or monetary damages as a result of her so-called "outing."

How pathetic has this nation become, when we've got a former covert agent threatening to file a civil lawsuit over something as meaningless and inconsequential as this? Good heavens -- they make Orrin Hatch and Joe Lieberman look like sturdy, robust symbols of manhood.

You mean, Richard Ben-Veniste .. the former "mob" lawyer .. well actually, two mobs .. the REAL mob and then the ArkMob, and God only knows who he's connecting with tonight?? This is unbelievable. As I said and has been said: the criminalization of politics has begun in earnest. I'm still holding onto some faith in the sterling rep of Fitzgerald, however.

or just another desk jockey working at Langley.

From the photos posted here, she really looks like the typical covert operative. She'd really blend in well in most third-world hellholes.

"They" can't go after Cheney until he's out of the White House.

You think Harriett Miers would vote to let a playboy and his floozie sue the Vice President?

But see .. since he was "selected" by wifey to take on this "mission in Niger," was he an actual employee? I just don't think so, but I'm not up on the technicalities of his status then (only that he's a bitter and arrogant SOB then and now).

what constitutional protection does a vice president, but more specifically his staff, have in a civil case? the SCOTUS isn't going to stop that, have you seen some of the decisions lately?

:-) Fantastic! I say that we countersue Plame and attach Joe Wilson as the actual leaker! LOL!

Even George Tenet said that Wilson's report was not conclusive. Why would anyone exact revenge?

Wilson himself invited this whole mess because he lied and said that Cheney's office sent him to Africa.

Plame needs to know when to hold 'em, fold 'em and just walk away. They're publicity hounds. another understatement.

If anything she has gained in bucks big time.

Her husband looks like the kind that can't keep a job
unless someone is proping him up

He has the same protections a president has.

You know well that Cheney would push it to the Supreme Court.

Those photos make her looks like she's ALSO a "child of the sixties" like that moronic schmuck she's married to.

One word............DISCOVERY

My thoughts exactly. One should be careful of what they wish for. I would make certain that my lawyers asked the most uncomfortable questions of Ms. Plame. I doubt this ever goes to trial.

Wilson/Plame's theory of the case is that Plame's privacy was invaded by the public disclosure of her employment status. Thus, it is her status as a government employee that is at issue, not Wilson's.

That being said, the argument with respect to Wilson is that he was a public figure before his trip to Niger at the behest of the CIA. The fact he went to Niger was in the public domain, and how and why he went there were necessary revealations.

If this is the way they want to play the game then Wilson should be charged with perjury during his congressional testimony.

Since gov employees are paid by us....Then we are their employers, no?

Can't we use some of the EOE laws or something to hammer these fools?

Even UNICEF offers some type of financial awards to employers that comply with EOE terms.

Can we tap those monies as employers and find us a lawyer to put these people in their place?

How do we do this?
