I take offense that people feel the liberty to post ANY kind of flier on my property...whether home or vehicle. I throw them away with an attitude and I get over it. What a bunch of weak-kneed, spineless simpletons that can't address these matters without involving the media. There must not be many people left who grasp the concept of a free country.
Here's a clue....if you don't agree with it, then don't buy into it, throw the flier away and get on with your life. If you're that distraught over such a minor thing, could be it's touching a nerve you don't want disturbed. If it is a matter of conscience, then perhaps you need to be looking inward instead of attacking the messenger.
John 13:34,35
My take? The church folks have every right to send a letter and she has every right to decorate her house. Pity adults have this sort of problem, isn't it?
Yippee! A Haloween Thread!
Hmm...people who leaflet my door have my anger directed at them. I don't care whether they're real estate agents wanting me to sell my house, home repair folks wanting to sell me new windows, or religious folks objecting to the gauze ghost hanging from my tree.
My opinion: Unless I am breaking some law, they should stay off my property and mind their own business.
If they drop paper on my lawn, I call them and insist they return and remove their litter. If they refuse, I file a complaint for littering against them.
If I find them stuffing flyers in my door, I inform them that they are trespassing on my property and that I will press charges if they ever return.
I love Halloween. I dislike busybodies.
********************
I have to agree. I saw the first Halloween decorations in this area the first week of September. People are decorating their entire yards, porches and roofs. It really has become the equal of Christmas.
Ms. Gully need to get a grip! What did she expect them to do, visit her in robes and pitchforks? If it had been me, I'd have just mailed it back to them with a note that said "Thanks for your concern, now leave my family alone."
I have told this story before on FR, regarding Halloween, guess I will tell it again...
Many years ago, when I took my boys trick-or-treating, we came to one house where the two children of the house, were sitting on the fence outside of their house, and handing out religious tracts to the other kids, all the while, telling them how sinful they were for participating in Halloween activities...mom and dad stood in the doorway, just beaming over their childrens activities...
Many months later, there was a great big ruckus at this house...Paramedics, and police were at this house...seems dad came home early one day and found mom in a 'compromising' situation with another man...dad proceeded to shoot mom...dad was taken to jail, mom to the hospital...
I guess children participating in Halloween activities were sinful, but adultery and attempted murder were somehow not considered sinful in this household...
An extreme case, I would grant you..but it just shows great hypocrisy on these parents part...It was easier to point out others sins, than to deal with their own sins..
There are those who will find evil, and sin, no matter where they look...but only sin and evil in others...better these busybodies look into a mirror, and to their own families...
Oh, get freaking over it and change your diapers.
Geesh. How did the nation of pioneers who explored and conquered the West and built the most powerful nation on earth breed such whining crybabies?
Dress up like an Indian and you are making a mockery of Native Americans.
What is it if you put on a Darth Vader costume with a war bonnet?
You forgot the Maude Flanders Alert.
This makes nno sense - the "House of Prayer" Church in Bloomington also sponsors as "school" - which is holding a "Hell Night" for Haloween?

I expect the ACLU to sue to make halloween mandatory within the next few years.
Called the police? What an imbecile...
I have attended functions at the House of Prayer before and know quite a few people who attend there. My guess is that the flyer was not an officially sanctioned literature drop of HOP. (That is, I'm sure the church didn't send people out just to drop a flyer on this lady's porch). I picture it as more of an independant action by people who attend HOP.
Larry Mitchell and the staff at HOP are very good Christians with a heart for outreach. They have a huge ministry to the motorcycle community and to the rougher edges of society. They can be found ministering in places where most Christians would fear to tread. And they are quite successful at it. Bikers need Jesus too.
In light of this I don't see them putting out a flyer saying "You're going to hell because you celebrate halloween" It's just not their style.
One of the ministries that they used to do (I haven't been there in a couple years so I'm not sure if it continued) was to make and distribute coffee each morning at the ABATE Boogie which is held in Lawrence county. The Boogie (for those who don't know) is a three to four day music/debauchery festival of bikers from across the midwest. Lots of drunkeness, drugs, nudity, and other anti-social type behavior. The HOP people distribute coffee in a non-threatening, non-judgemnetal manner. Displaying the light of Jesus by being friends to these folk.
So distributing a flyer that is threatening is just totally out of character for them.
I think this lady got her undies in a knot simply because some Christian tried to help her.
Also, unless the church has moved in the last year. They are located in Elletsville. They had a huge pice of ground out there and were planning anew building last time I was there. In fact the official name of the church is Elletsville House of Prayer.
BTW, obviously I'm an evangelical Christian (Pentecostal/Charismatic) and I agree with HOP. My family doesn't do halloween.
