Abbas Claims Terrorists Have Disarmed 18:04 Oct 20, '05 / 17 Tishrei 5766
(IsraelNN.com) Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) told a press conference several minutes ago that he has succeeded in disarming terrorist gangs. He did not refer to the Monday murders of three Israelis.
Abbas and President George W. Bush met reporters after an hour-long discussion. Abbas said terrorist organizations have accepted his demand not to hold public demonstrations with firearms and that their disarming will enable them to participate in PA elections. Hamas terrorist leaders, the major challenger to Abbas, have said they will not disarm, and eyewitnesses have reported that armed Hamas members patrol several areas in Gaza.
President Bush told reporters that the PA must disarm terrorists whom referred to as "armed gangs" and that Israeli must dismantle outposts, He also said he will not force his own political timetable on the Israel and the U.S. to reach a final agreement on a new Arab state in Israel.

He added that "years of mistrust are being resolved by basic truths [such as] a peaceful society. The president praised Abbas for "strong leadership."

If so, then Abbas is wrong.

"years of mistrust are being resolved by basic truths [such as] a peaceful society."
When they shall say.....
And Iran is not making Nukes, and China is spending only 30b on defense, and Clinton didn't inhale.
Lying is the offical language of "Palestine".
The thing is, groups like Hamas and IJ are not terrorist gangs. Not to the Palestinians at least... so technically, he could be correct...
(you are getting very very sleepy...at the count of 3 I vill snap my fingers and you vill remember nutteen, nutteen at all, just peace, love and good will to all men)

Interesting, considering PA has no intent to disarm terror groups
"On the eve of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas's visit to Washington, the PA announced that it has no intention of disarming Hamas or other armed groups." ...............
What an insane comment and Bush praises him for strong leadership. The man has done bupkes...
Praising Abbas for strong leadership along with Condi Rice's statement that the US has sent a harshly worded statement to Israel regarding the expansion of Ma'aleh Adumim, saying that this is contrary to US policy in the Middle East.
Of course, it goes without saying that this constitutes a remarkable level of meddling in the affairs of a sovereign nation and supposed ally in the WOT which, it appears, is a war that only the US may wage. Everyone else has to appease these murders.
One thing is certain, President Bush is fast alienating this voter. This may not have any implication to this President but it sure as oats will have an impact during the next election cycle, 2006, as well as in 2008.
Certainly, at this point, I will NOT vote for Condi Rice. this, of course, means that I stay home, vote a third party, or vote (shudder) for the democrat if he/ she is a halfway decent candidate. At least then I know what I'm getting. Talk about a stealth candidate...Pres Bush has the market cornered.
Condi seems to fit right in with the Arabists in Foggy Bottom; she's making Powell appear staunchly pro-Israel by comparison.
But she's not doing this on her own; this turnabout on Israel comes from the very top. .....and is shortsighted (to be kind about it) beyond imagining.

So he's just telling Bush what Bush wants to hear?
Abbas is telling the leftist media what it wants to hear (and report).
Three Israelis, a kid and two young women are gunned down, and bupkes. To make matters worse, Abbas tells a barefaced lie at the press conference and Bush stands there with a mouth full of teeth.
I understand that he can't very well turn to Abbas and tell him that he's a lying two-stroke. But he could at least make a comment that while Mr Abbas seems to be taking some steps to curtail the activities of the Islamonazis, it remains to be seen whether concrete steps will be taken to disarm them completely.
I'm just sick about this. I feel misled in so many ways by this admin. I have defended the Pres up, down and sideways to friends and family. And I feel like a total spaz for doing so. I'm pretty disillusioned, I must admit.
If you'd like to be on this middle east/political ping list, please FR mail me.
And immediately after getting re-elected, not-so-strangely. It appears the longstanding view held by the old guard (Bush 41, Scowcroft, Baker III) that Israel is more of a nuisance and a liability than an ally is now the view of the present admin. .....and Arab (especially Saudi) ass kissing is of course the order of the day.
